Hawking's thinks we need it to survive. He is supposed to be pretty smart....

http://www.independent.co.uk/life-s...technology-destroy-humankind-th-a7618021.html

Do you?

How do you think it would look and what should be the model.

Like the UN with world leaders becoming "governors" of their country beholding to a consolidated federal power?

Like Star Trek?

Maybe a nice Monarchy?

Or is a complete Tyrant needed at the start to even make it happen?

I can see it happening. Not in the next 200 years..... but eventually.

Yea, a 1 size fits all nanny state, that will go over well LOL

I wonder what kind of atrocity it's going to take to make that happen.

It will happen. LOOK OUT for the anti-Christ

"One world government" has been a favorite conservative bogeyman for decades.

It's not gonna happen.

Of course it will. It's where we've been heading for the last 100,000 years. Nobody here will ever see it nor will our grandkids but it will almost certainly happen at some point.

A key environmental justice leader at the Environmental Protection Agency has resigned...
-lead from The Washington Post

WHAT in the name OF FUCK is an "environmental justice leader" and why in fuck is there somebody on the government payroll getting paid to be whatever the fuck an "environmental justice leader" is ?

He resigned, and there's a hiring freeze. Drink some bottled water and calm down.

Poll is missing the option "Yea, as long as it's us doing the governing and not the filthy <insert nationality here>."

Diversity is always risky, but the only life-giving way, at all levels. Uniformity kills, and is never well-intentioned.

Lots of examples of federal systems working quite well to rule diverse people. Not inconceivable to have a federal Terran government. Pride and certain prejudices are the biggest roadblock to One World Government.

Not at all....it's the greed and disregard for others.

Certain humans want to control others, 99.9% of the time because money/resources......

Pride and prejudice have fuck all to do with it, unless you're a social justice idiot chugging that Kool-Aid.

It would be bloody no doubt.

atrocity? Global warming by god....

There's also global pandemic & famine. New mutant strains of influenza, ebola, various strains of water & air borne pathogens etc, not to mention a good old fashioned plague. Collapse of bee populations have been occurring with alarming frequency which could have devastating effects on agriculture. The last couple of years have marked the 700th anniversary of the Great Famine of 1315-17 which presaged the Black Death of 1347-51. Between a quarter and a third of the population of the Western Hemisphere perished during the 14th century.

It would take a remarkable level of international cooperation to combat such catastrophes, necessitating the formation of a One World Government of some sort or other, so yes, I'd be all for it but I don't think it's gonna happen. Too much nationalism, ethnic strife and religious fanaticism, not to mention economic elites scurrying around to hold on to what they got. The world's population has more than doubled in my lifetime and is still rising exponentially. This can't go on forever and eventually something's gotta give. Fun times ahead, eh kids? So like they said back in the 14th century: Eat, drink and be merry for tomorrow we die.

Only somebody unfamiliar with human nature can believe in the concept of World Government. This is the main problem with liberals and other totalitarians.

For thousands of years, the vast majority of people only knew a single government - the one in control of their land. They had no trouble accepting it, either.

Only someone with poor reading comprehension skills could miss the fact that it's precisely for reasons of "human nature" that I don't think a World Government will ever come into being, much as my idealism would like it to. And only someone blithely ignorant of political theory would not know that liberalism, both classic and modern, is the very antithesis of totalitarianism.

Pride and prejudice have fuck all to do with it . . .

Pride and prejudice have a lot to do with why people want to control others or resist being controlled by others.

Only somebody unfamiliar with human nature can believe in the concept of World Government.

If human nature does not prevent the establishment of national governments, it will not prevent the establishment of a world government.

It will happen after the martians invade, but not before.
