Painter's caulk everything before you paint. Adds immensely to the look of the job.

When you have windows and doors the caulk is stopping the wet from getting to the typical wood interior framing. Windows and door don't last long when the caulking goes. If you can flash doors and windows (if not already done) that works better than a lot of caulking.

I do basement foundation cracks with a polymer that comes in a caulking tube. I don't buy good caulking guns for that job. The stuff can come out the back plug if too much pressure used. Some cracks that quite a bit of pressure.

A good caulking gun is a necessity.
