The Official Authors' Hangout April Fool's Day 2017 Contest Support Thread

It's been less than a day, your sample size is still too small to start analyzing.

Even though I have a lot of hits and even though I have a lot of readers favoring my story and favoring me as their favorite authors, the votes are very low, about .2% when normal voting is .4 to .8%.

The only ones who vote all the time are the bashers, God bless them (lol).

I wish these people would get a life.

"So, what do you do in your spare time?"

"I vote a 1 vote to every story on Literotica. I don't reed any of them, I just give them a 1 vote to piss off the arthor. Sometimes, when I'm realy in a bad moud, I'll rite a coment bout how much they suk as a riter.

Only, I'm embarased that I kan't rite a gramatikaly korect bashing coment when these riters kan rite such long storys with no misteaks."

I have taken note of that irony. The trolls are far more dedicated than the people who enjoy the stories. Damn sad.

But you're not alone. Not that the numbers on the hub are in real time, but I checked the few entries that came out today and some of the vote totals are depressingly low. Even Silkstockinglover has less than 50(on the hub) and its an incest story and its...her.

I don't know. Maybe it's just me but...

Is the readership lower?

I remember routinely getting 60,000 hits no matter what I posted.

Then, whenever I posted an incest story, I seldom got less than 100,000 hits.

Are readers not reading? Is our older fan base (gulp) dying off?

Is there another erotic site competing with Literotica and taking our readers?

For sure, even fewer readers are voting and leaving comments.

Are our younger readers more wanting to have sex than to read about sex (lol)?

Maybe my stories are too long. Maybe I need to write a 3 page stroker story (lol).

Whether the story is too long or too short, it's seems harder to please the reader.

Lit is losing ground because for years it was behind the times tech wise and their last minute efforts in the last few months are still bugging and way late.

You hit a key point with age. People our age,are fine with the old look because we recall no net at all. The younger crowd expects all the bells and whistles and easy navigation. User friendly I guess. Lit is neither in their eyes.

Also many longtime top authors are gone. Death health issues real life crap or simply no longer writing or no longer writing here. The longtime writers held the long time readers here. They leave some readers do as well.

It's been said by a few here but noticed by many more that the stories and authors and site functionality have not been a priority here for a long time. We're now seeing the results of that.

It's been slightly more than one day. We can't possibly have enough information to draw a conclusion.

Also, what are you comparing it to? The previous contest? That wouldn't be a fair comparison, since some contests are inevitably more popular than others. This same contest the previous year? But you might be mistaking a change of interest in your story with a change of interest in the contest/site itself, or just not remembering last year as clearly as you think.

The numbers will be whatever the numbers are. You can't do anything about it. Stop sweating the number. Channel this energy into writing, the only thing you actually do have control over.

I'm going to side with them on this. All it takes to see numbers are down is to have written here for a decent period of time especially in the same category. With some exceptions incest and other category numbers have been down for quite some time.

I'd go into more detail but don't want to be branded as "take news" by the powers that be or end up with an off topic thread started

I expect my views to be down over time as readers begin to know what I write and ONLY those who like my stories come back for a new one.

Readers read what they want to read.

Just check the Top List for the past 30 days. It's usually at least 100,000 views range for the top 10 stories, with some the top 2 stories being over 140,000 views or so.

I know from my own experience that view/votes goes up and down for each new story. I'm used to it now.

But it is a wierd thing, how some stories are more popular than others, even with the same ingredients.

I mentioned this in the coffee shop, but I might as well mention here.

The number of stories being posted recently seems very high to me. I haven't made a practice of monitoring it, but I remember having stories on the first page of the "New" list for as much as three days. I've checked twice recently (including today) and found that the number of new stories is larger than the first page of the "New" list. Some stories posted today are on the second page. Some stories posted yesterday are already at the bottom of page 4 of the "New" list.

Unless there's also a similar increase in readers (and I doubt there is), more new stories probably means that the stories are going to get fewer views.

I'm not basing my assertion that the readership is down by one day of a contest.

I'm basing my assertion that the readership is down by having posted more than 2,000 stories here for 10 years under 15 different names.

I'm basing my assertion that the readership is down based on my educated opinion.

Further, I suggest the readership has decreased since that scandal in England over that whorehouse where all the names were made public.

I suggest that the readership has decreased since it was made public that the NSA monitors everything.

I suggestion the readership has decreased ever since we all have a cloud of storage hanging over our heads to prove to our loved ones that we're guilty of reading erotica a porn.

"No, I swear, Honey. I don't go to that site to read erotica or porn. In the same way that I only read the articles in Playboy and Hustler, I only go to Literotica to read poems, essays, and non-erotica stories."

Wait! Before you throw your shoes at me, I was just wondering...

Is the next contest the Nude Day contest? I may have an idea for a story.

"Alright. That's not even funny. Which one of you snapped a used condom at me? That hit me right in the face."

I have anonymous feedback turned off.

I think, but don't know, that anonymous is retaliating with low scores.

Just curious, Ogg, is the Nude Day contest the next contest? And if it is, when does that begin. I have an idea for a story. Thanks in advance for your reply.

I've just submitted my third, a short one.

I didn't think I had enough story ideas for April Fool's Day. I was wrong.

Whether they are good ideas? That's up to the readers to decide. I haven't got a clue.

I managed to send a second one off for editing, and hopefully I'll be getting it back in time for the contest. It would be the first time I'd contribute more than one. Would be nice, because the first one is doing pretty shitty in the ratings. Then again, the second one is an LW story, so shouldn't expect it to do any better.

And I'm still working on my first. I wanted to get two in but I'll be lucky to get this one done. Maybe this week.

That third one is the only story I started fresh for this contest. The other two were started years ago.

I still have three or four ancient drafts that might do - for next year's contest. Three from me is already too many.

And, as expected, my third entry is being bashed by low votes and anon...

I'll give you a hug and a five to offset one troll

Thank you for that. I have also had 'Comment removed by administration' a couple of times when I checked this morning.

I assume they might have been anon bashing my work again, but they could have been advertising.

Most likely advertising, the site usually leaves it up to the author to remove or leave 'bashing'
