Is Anyone Watching Taboo On FX?

You know there are some shows you watch and you say to yourself, "I sure am glad they haven't invented smell-o-vision yet.".

That's for god damn sure. You know it had stink to high hell on those muddy banks of the Thames in the early 19th Century.:D

Delaney sure spends a lot of time traipsing through the mud.

The episodes would be 15 minutes shorter if they just eliminated all the scenes where people are simply walking from place to place.

The big difference between this show and a similarly "I don't always know what's going on" show like Mr. Robot is that at least on Mr. Robot I'm usually invested in the characters. Taboo has way too many characters, and everybody except maybe the actress/widow seems to be some level of reprehensible.

Between this and The Revenant, I'm having trouble remembering what Tom Hardy actually looks like.

Ditto. Delaney is so sexy. A cross between Heathcliff and Bill Sykes.
knew you;d appreciate him, and i think the bill sykesalike thing must have been quite deliberate on the part of the producers :D

not so much my cup of tea but i find the story really interesting, especially since the east india dock company part is based on fact. gives a fascinating insight into corruption and the manipulation by the movers and shakers of the day.

delaney's character is so conflicted, it makes me want to know more about him even if he's repelling in so many ways :D

i'm pretty miffed, though, at having missed a few of the damned episodes (including last week's) and not caught up on them, so can't miss saturday's finale.

I was wondering, "why are they talking about Tom Hardy and Bill Sykes?"
The 1970s film was my favorite, so I was thinking that guy- not sexy to me.
Then I did a little google and learned that Tom Hardy played Bill in a mini-series!
Is it a musical? Is there singing!?! Does Tom Hardy sing!?!?!?!

the character, delaney, has the build and sometimes the menacing demeanour of the bill sykes character from the original oliver film when olly reed played him. the style of clothing is very similar, and even closer to that tom hardy wore portraying sykes himself.

tom hardy seems to have beefed up for this role - or maybe just grown older and more man than boy :)

Tom Hardy was beefy in the Bronson film.

His acting was amazing in Peaky Blinders. That's when I realized how good he is.

I'll be watching his Oliver series soon. I hope he sings!!! squeeeEEEEEE!!!!1!!

The sets are interesting and seemingly realistic but I think the reliance on the supernatural aspect helps to confuse the viewer. Having read several historical versions of the saga of Huge Glass, I found the Revenant and Leonardo DiCaprio a bit disappointing.

Have you seen Frontier, the Jason Momoa drama about the Hudson Bay Company in colonial Canada? it's offered by Canadian Netflix. I've seen the first season by casting it from my phone to the TV. Kinda interesting as well.

I have been watching taboo on the BBC and enjoying it somewhat. It's the last episode this weekend.

I've read where English women of the time wore a kind of clog to elevate their feet from the mud and horse dung in the streets. It must have been hell keeping the bottoms of long dresses out of that mess and housekeeping a nightmare. Glad we live in the 21st Century.:)

He's actually pretty short for a leading man, but it's very well disguised. You're never saying to yourself, "Shouldn't Bane be at least six feet tall?"

I haven't, but I heard some positive things -- also, if I'm not mistaken, that it's pretty violent (not that I necessarily mind that).

I'd say it was violent, but most of these kinds of shows are gratuitously violent these days.
