I am currently writing my 20th story for this site. It's not as many as most authors but already I find myself becoming stale.

How do you seasoned authors continue to rehash the sex scene and keep it interesting and exciting?

I am struggling to continually write the sex scene - sucking the big cock - cock in pussy - orgasm to beat all etc. etc. etc.

I am trying to write about more than 'the fuck' which does make a story more interesting but at the end of the day this is a porn site and people come here to read erotica. I get criticized for being 'too light on the sex details' but the next story I get criticized for just being 'fuck, fuck, fuck'

How do you manage to write fuck scene after fuck scene successfully ?

Unless I've seen a sex situation or position somewhere that I want to include in a story, I'm not thinking of the details of the sex scenes when I prepare to write a story. I'm usually thinking of a story line, a hook/twist, and a time period. Then I let the sex scenes just drop in, based on the build up to them and how they serve the story line. I don't think much about making each sex scene different from every other one. There are just so many Tab A/Slot B variations. The situation the characters are in when sex pops up usually determines how that scene will play out. (And I have a lot of sex in my Lit. stories.)

Yep, story first, sex second.

I tend to not plot much, and my characters seem to emerge from my sub-conscious and put a shape to themselves. Once my characters start to develop, the erotica/sexual tension falls into place based on their personalities and what story line is appearing. I'm writing one at the moment where a minor character (i thought) seems to be pushing forward for more page time. I don't mind that, but I am intrigued as to where the hell she came from. No-one I know!

Yea i'm inclined to agree story first, sex second
Though if you still need help with the sex scenes my general advice is to take up sexual roleplaying. That's what helped me when it came to writing sex scenes. THe idea is to get some interaction from the opposite sex's prespective. THough personally my usual rule of thumb is pay attention to every inch of a woman's body until she screams something to the effect of "fuck me you bastard!"

You know Fannyrat, I think at least some of the seasoned writers have never managed to portray the ultimate sex scene and keep searching endlessly for it, that's why. One-, two-, four-, nine-hundred times and still they're not there yet.

In a way, this mirrors life doesn't it?

Whew, I'm so pleased that my last twenty-seven stories here finally must have made the grade. ;)

I agree with story first but I think your question deserves more answer than that. There really isn't anything new about putting tab A into slot B. What can and should be new is who is behind tab A and who is behind slot B. Bring the characters to life and the sex will liven up right behind them. Give them a reason for the sex, more than just a juvenile sex drive. Give them a personality. Is the man trying to overcome feelings of inadequacy? Is the woman overcompensating for a cold and unloving father? Do the two women have fears of "coming out" but love conquers those fears?

Someone once said there are only a certain number of stories in the universe. That person seriously lacked imagination (or lived in Hollywood), but what takes a story to the next level is the people/characters in the story. You can tell a tired story and if the characters are there, it will shine. Get to know your characters. Get to be friends with them and let them tell you the story. It will keep it interesting for you and your readers. Once you do that, then you can go back and dump all the lewd sex scenes in you want. You can really get into the big nasty and the story will still be fresh, as long as all the sex scenes make sense. Or you can opt for the soft-core route and the story will still shine because whether you are writing a love story or the hardest stroke story, the characters are the light. Without them there is only darkness, but with them almost anything is possible.

One last piece of advice. Remember that you can write the best Pulitzer prize winning story and some jackass with an ax to grind will tell you it's the worst piece of shit they've ever read. When that happens know this. Your story is NOT the worst piece of shit they've ever read, guaranteed. There is a better than 50/50 chance they haven't even read your story. There is a better than 50/50 chance they are actually functionally illiterate and when you used the word "vulva" they stopped reading because it was too hard to sound it out. Don't worry about negative comments. Laugh at their inherent idiocy but don't worry about them. And for goodness sake, don't stop writing. There are new, fresh stories and characters inside you and they deserve to honored. You deserve to have readers read your stories and fall in love with your characters. You are a writer, so write. The rest of the universe will take care of itself.

Got that right. :D

I'm more of a newbie than you, but I have some mainstream writing experience. You might like to try this:

Find a porno that depicts the sex scene you're describing. (xhamster, xnxx, any of the "tube" sites...)

Play the scene with a finger on the pause button.

Watch a bit, hit pause, and describe what you see.

Repeat until the end.

Now go through it again, and put yourself into the mind of one of the actors in the scene. What is he / she seeing, smelling, tasting, feeling? Enrich your story with those descriptions.

NOW ... enrich it further with brief thoughts or comments etc. that pertain to the broader story.

It might work for you...

I have exactly as much experience here as you do, so take what I say with a grain of salt.

One thing you might try is to make the sex less than perfect. You can actually write what is basically the same scene a thousand ways by throwing in (often realistic) mistakes, interruptions, misunderstandings and the humor and other reactions that go along with those things.

That might also help make your characters seem more real to the reader.

Personally, I strive for 'interesting' rather than 'exciting'. I think what excites one person can easily leave the next four people cold. But interesting tends to have a somewhat broader appeal. Of course, if the reader is just looking to get off in the next three minutes, they're probably wasting their time reading my stuff. :)

Read all the posts above. The exciting stuff are the terms and expressions folks get wrong.

An AX TO GRIND is a conflict of interest where you champion an action guaranteed to profit you. The best example of it is Brer Rabbits a appeal to Brer Fox, DONT THROW ME IN THE BRIAR PATCH.

UNCONSCIOUS and SIB-CONSCIOUS are not synonyms.

SUB-CONSCIOUS is simply whats out of mind. UNCONSCIOUS is non-sensival for the reason you cant access it with any of your senses. In a way SUB-CONSCIOUS are memories or memorials. UNCONSCIOUS is akin to computer code that makes no sense until you interpret the code. The soul of unconscious is recognition.

People who wrote before me have already given a lot of good advice that I can't add to. The same old "fuck scene" can sound different enough given different characters, settings, and circumstances.

As a reader, I find that I search out different writers on the site simply because I find that once I have absorbed one writer's style and perspective, as good as any individual writer may be, I need to move on to another writer's style/perspective for variety. So I hop from one to another, looking for a different approach and angle that may resonate with me in some (new) way.

As a writer, I set myself goals - to write from a different point of view, or put my characters in uncomfortable situations, or try for something funny, or sad, or scary, or try to push my own boundaries (write incest rather than erotic couplings, or gay male/lesbian or group sex, or some other category that's somewhat outside my wheelhouse) or whatever - different ways to keep myself excited about and while writing and keep from getting stale.

As everyone else has said before me, it's not entirely, or even mostly, about the sex scenes.

Not gonna lie, the sex is almost always the hardest part of a sex story, and I'm rarely happy with the scenes I write. That said, it's the context of the scene that's supposed to make it interesting: How did the characters get here, what do we know about them, and (most importantly) why do THEY find the scene interesting as they're taking part in it?

I'd agree that, but who mentioned "unconscious"?

Is Literotica a 'porn site'? In my opinion, Erotica and Porn are two different things...
read the tread: "How much sex is required?"

I once got this message:

Im not going to complain in the public forum

Comments:
But you do realize this is a porn site, right? What the hell is this doing here?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The story was placed in section 'non-erotic... It made me :)

It's whatever is posted on it. There's little control over that. And from the sex store toys attached, some of the ads on it, the photos and avatars permitted on it, and what is permitted in the personals forums, yeah, it stretches as far as being a porn site. There are a lot of Internet services that block it.

That's true; quite often those things are way out of my comfort zone. It's not something I share with the rest of my family...
Nevertheless, I think you can decide for yourself what you make of it. No-one should be telling you to write porn, and I don't think I have to...

Well, no, but not everyone is doing the same thing here on Literotica--thank God.

My suggestion would be to focus on your characters. What makes them interesting and unique? It is there mental and emotional reaction to "insert tab a into slot b" that gives the scene its unique flavor.

How to keep a story exciting? Excite yourself. Work up some tension and lust and crazy. If you feel dull when writing it, we'll feel dull when reading it. Apply some chemical stimulation or guilty kinks. And masturbate -- get your juices flowing, your energies swirling. Turn-on yourself, and your readers will follow. Hopefully.

I like adding things going on on the background and reference conversations and things that happen away from the actual storyline dialogue.đź‘ đź‘ đź‘ Kantđź’‹

Readers furnish the excitement.

Writers make whatever they make, fill the display case with it, and readers come to the display case with their appetites. They then get their fill and one-bomb what they have no appetite for after they stuffed themselves.

The real question is: Whats the recipe for good sex?

And the answer is: Surprise. You had no idea till the two of you were alone and the cat gets outta the bag.

It was me. You implied the sub-conscious does the heavy lifting, and its the unconscious does it.

Ok, ok, I'll give you a little attention. As normal, you're talking out your ass. If you are unconscious, you're not doing much of anything. In other words, your normal state. :D

*Sigh*

Readers don't furnish anything for a story but an audience.

Jimbo, there you go thinking like a reader. A writer knows better.

There. Is. No. Recipe. For. Anything.

Are the words small enough and slow enough for ya. What is good sex to one person isn't to another. Fit the damned sex to the story as it is needed. If it is needed. Otherwise you are talking just to be heard.

Sex is sex right? I mean how many different ways can you write about someone having sex? How can you keep it interesting? Quite a lot of ways actually.

You can begin by using different positions. You can have vanilla sex, doggie style, fellatio, pussy eating, woman on top, etc.

You can use different environments. Sex at home is one thing, but what if they're trying to secretly bang in the Macy's department store dressing room? Or you know, take it outside.

You can have them wear different clothes. Lingerie, short skirts, cheerleading uniforms, you name it. Have em roger with the clothes on sometimes.

There are ways to keep things fresh. ;)
