When a treaty involves over 5000 pages how much wiggle room do you think that document provides to anyone/everyone.

Would you sign a 5000 page contract? It might make you agree to a quasi-something.

I recently had to read the whole document. It basically is a defence of the status quo, a so called treaty which conceded nothing from the advanced economies, USA, Japan Canada, Australia and threw a few tit-bits to the Asian minnow economies. China wasn't involved. It in no way damaged the US economy, and seems that its sole purpose was to turn the minor countries away from China.

However, with the USA walking away China is now saying 'ignore them join with us' which has interesting military/diplomatic connotations.

Since about 1860 America hasn't really involved itself in any trade deal which offered any other country an equal competitive position. It's always been the most protectionist Western Nation (excluding Japan) so nothing under Trump is gonna change much except perhaps more protection a la Smoot Hawley (1930)
