I think it is important to have laws controlling immigration. I think our current laws need to be changed and the process streamlined. That alone would help curtail illegal immigration.
There's a lot of hysteria about trump's plans and the way they are reported. "Trump plan's to curtail immigration". That may be true to some extent, but enforcing current immigration laws is not "curtailing" immigration.
Our inability to work together for meaningful change is upsetting. Ignoring laws we don't like. Sanctuary Cities. Executive Action. This is not the way America is supposed to function.
People are upset about "building a wall". Don't you think our borders need to be secured in some way? Whether it is by patrols, electronics, aerial surveillance, they are all ways of preventing people from entering our country without going through the proper channels. If you agree the border needs to be secured, what difference does it make how it's secured? And if you do not think the border needs to be secured, what are the ramifications of that position?

The number of illegal immigrants has been steadily dropping. Build a wall, and they'll all be forced to stay.

I don't think building a wall is practical. But we do have to work on the immigration process.

The majority of illegal immigrants in the UK didn't smuggle themselves across borders.

They entered perfectly legally as students, tourists, or visiting their family members.

They stayed after their permission to visit expired.

We have the sea around us. That doesn't stop legal visitors staying to become illegal immigrants.

Where did you get that?

In the few months before November 8, the amount of people arrested while attempting to sneak in has skyrocketed. it came to about 45k per day. and those are the ones arrested.

This morning a CNN report on the wall interviewed a lady who lives right on the border. She leaves daily a cooler with ice filled with small bottles of water outside for the people sneaking in, and for the patrols guards following them...

And no one will be stopped from leaving. the wall won't jail them inside.

That applies to most countries including the US .

Why does anyone have an issue with keeping ILLEGAL aliens out of the country?

I just don't get it...

The problem they have is with law and order. Illegal is not a word the left likes. They prefer undocumented and words that create more BS government jobs.

That's true. "There are no 'Illegal' human beings." Of course not. That's clearly not what it means. My impression is that liberals think the immigration process is too ponderous, so the solution is to disregard it. I infer that ideally, they would like no borders at all. Everyone is beautiful in their own way. In my opinion, potential immigrants need to be screened, but the process has to be faster. Screened for criminal activity, diseases, ability to support themselves, willingness to learn English, willingness to understand the American system and their responsibilities as a potential citizen; stuff like that.

It's the waste of building a wall we don't need. Haven't you noticed that nobody wants to pay for the thing?

Two year old data doesn't give current trend, and more importantly, its never been reliable. How do you do stats on illegal people? How many will be honest about it? With Trump announcing? ...

The border indicator is more representative. The border guards are able to grab so many... and in October alone, they got 46000.

Illegal immigrant border crossings reach highest number in two years

By Stephen Dinan - The Washington Times - Thursday, November 10, 2016

Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson on Thursday said agents are seeing a renewed surge of people attempting to sneak into the U.S. through the southwestern border over the past few months, with more than 46,000 caught in October alone.
It’s the highest tally since the surge of illegal immigrant children in the summer of 2014.
The numbers were released two days after the presidential election that culminated a campaign in which the porous condition of the southwest border was a heated topic.
Mr. Johnson said he is scrambling resources to try to contain the situation, including putting more illegal immigrants into detention and urging other countries to expedite the process of taking back their citizens.
“Our borders cannot be open to illegal migration. We must, therefore, enforce the immigration laws consistent with our priorities,” Mr. Johnson said in a statement announcing the numbers.

Illegal immigration is an economic problem, and should be controlled by economic means. Start jailing those employing, and exploiting them and you would see the numbers decline significantly.

Yes I'm looking at you Donald! :)

Say 46,000 a month times twelve months. That's 552,000.

Kindly point to that spot in the graph below.

This .

The 552000 is for the southwestern border alone.

Is your graph for that border also, or overall border apprehensions?
I'm pretty sure it's the one with Mexico, like it says. What other southwestern border is there? Alaska doesn't have one.

I took the Baha-California one as southwestern. There are 48 legal locations to cross from CA to TX. Do you mean all the mexico border is considered southwestern? Coz I thought Texas was just mid south..

If its all the border then you'd be right.

The point was about your saying if less are coming then the wall will only keep them in.

The numbers are being only indicative, not reasonably accurate, and anyone can leave through a checkpoint.. I'm not sure I understand why you say building a wall keeps them in.

Which brings the second post, the costs. It would be good to know if the cost of illegal immigration to the US is less or more than building a wall, and by how much.

Notwithstanding if the US deducts its cost from moneys sent/paid to Mexico.

Well, since there's no way to get accurate numbers, there's no way to know what those illegals cost.

I suppose it depends on how many are kept out by the wall. My guess is that it won't keep out very many.

Bull fucking shit! You won't find a more law and order country than socialist Kanuckistan! POGG!

The lack of respect for law and order is a Yank thing. All you folk do is bitch about your rights to arm yourselves and say anything stupid and hateful that you want. That is why you fucking gun one another down by the thousands every year. And have a tendency to employ rank amateurs as police officers or elect them by popular vote not by professional accreditations. You even elect judges who pander to party politics and the voters instead of placing the law above all else.

You lawless bastards are stuck in a Wild West fantasy land.

Law and order you southern cunts don't know the meaning of the word!

Another shot of whiskey may be in order.

Last night NPR reported that President Trump was going to withhold funds from "sanctuary cities" ion an effort to curtail immigration.
There are very few journalists out there and it's bad for the people. Mr. Trump's actions in this case are NOT to curtail immigration. It IS to curtail illegal immigration. So far I have not seen any believable reports that he wants to stop legal immigration.
There should not be a left wing press or a right wing press. As it stands now, they are both liars.
