Hey guys,

So this might a be a bit of a stretch, but I decided to try here anyway since there are quite a few really good authors on this site.

Some two weeks ago, I started looking for a couple of members in order to create a dialogue driven interactive game (like a visual novel). I managed to find an artist, who is drawing the images, and a story writer.

I'm programming, and leading the project.

The game will contain a variety of fetishes and will contain both hetero- and homoerotic content.

The idea is to create a demo, mostly to see how well the team works together and see if we can do this. If everything works out, we're aiming to continue working on it by using crowdfunding; in this case patreon.com.

Anyway, after about two weeks I've come to the conclusion that our current story writer is difficult to work with. She goes MIA for days at a time, and haven't produced anything of substance other than character descriptions (and short ones at that). The fact that she is working and studying -and- is living in a whole different timezone makes it extra difficult to find time when we can collaborate.

In any case, this place might not be the best place to look for a writer, but I decided to try anyway.

So, in short what the writer would do:
- Build the world
- Write the main plot
- Write dialogue
- Write exciting erotic narratives (for the sex scenes)

If this is at all interesting, I'm willing to share more info. Just PM me :)

Here's a question that I already know the answer.

How much are you paying for a writer to build the world, write the main plot, write dialogue, and write exciting, erotic narratives (for the sex scenes, of course)?

Please don't write...it depends.

Crowdfunding. Patreon. Demo. Two weeks elapsed. Not to be too critical here, but I kind of share Susan's sentiments. You're not going to go fast with a writer doing it as a freebie in their spare time (who has much of that, especially if you're working and studying?). Be patient, coz its not like there's likely to be any money in it.

But good luck, it sounds like fun.....if you're doing it as a hobby on the side.

You're right of course.

But she went into it knowing what was expected, four short character descriptions is far less than I expected her to come up with during two weeks. In fact, she wanted to be part in the general game discussions as well.

In fact, I don't even thing it's about how much she produces, but the fact that she doesn't seem at all interested to be doing the thing she signed up to do. The character descriptions was given to me with enough time in between that it could very well have been thought up as she was typing.

As for payment, it's rev-share if demo becomes crowdfunded. Also something she knows.

Okay, that's a bit clearer. Not for me but the best of luck :)

No problem, I'm just posting here with no expectation whatsoever. :)

If someone end up being interested in something like this and want more details, just send me a PM and I'll give it to you.

I'm not good at homosexual stuff except maybe some lesbian things.
But you can PM me with your ideas about what you'd like tos ee in the game

After pulling the fingers of one too many men who asked me to pull their fingers in a bar, after working for people who told me the check is in the mail, and after having too many dates with men promising not to cum in my mouth, I've learned to be suspicious.

Especially when it comes to writing, too many expect us to write for free, especially when most of us here are writing for free (lol).

Yet, there's little thought what it takes to write something, anything, for someone to post such a request.

On average and at the least, to create, develop, write, read, edit, rewrite, reread, and reedit a story it takes 45 to 90 hours. Whether you're writing e-Books or custom stories for fans, that translate to one to two dollars an hour?

How many people would work for one to two dollars an hour? Yet, we write because we must. Around every corner is someone there ready to take advantage of our writing ability and could nature.

"Okay, just lemme get this straight. Now that I pulled your finger, you said that if I blow you now, you'll mail me a check tomorrow. Right? And you promised not to cum in my mouth. Right?"

You have every right to feel that way!

The idea is not that people are going to work for me, but instead that everyone in the team works together to attempt to create something, and sharing any future rewards. It's a collaboration, and everyone invests their time.

Usually things like this is posted on forums where people are looking for this kind of collaboration, like hobby gaming development forums and such. But I decided to at least check the temperature here as well.

Hey, given what you're working on, why not. Writing and sex, this is the right place:D

Having done some amount of game programming and any amount of story writing, including interactively, I'm having trouble seeing how this would work. The player isn't going to be able to interact with characters at a level above what you currently see in sex games- wiggle the mouse on this, click on that, choose one of these three lines to speak, etc. It's not only been done to death (and for free), but it's about a erotic as roadkill. What do you plan to do differently?

I could certainly come up with characters and storyline. I just don't think these games amount to anything and I'd have to be convinced otherwise.

Ah, so it's more a question about how the gameplay is going to work?

First of all, it's not going to give you much interaction at all during sex scenes. They are just narratives. It's what you do up until that point that matters.

While the game will consist of mainly dialogues, it's not going to be driven forward the same way a visual novel is driven forward. You're not only going to click on replies in a dialogue window.

Instead the game will still be first person, but you will be moving around locations freely - interacting with items and people. Talking, solving puzzles, playing mini games. All to unlock these erotic scenes.

So where is the uniqueness? Well, this has been done before. But it's another story, and we all know sex sells.

But two weeks in, we're still brainstorming on how to make the game as fun to play as possible.

I'm kinda interested - except that at the moment I'm also involved with a couple of award-winning short film producers and directors who are literally in Hollywood trying to raise money.

..but I'm kind of interested nevertheless.

Some of these things work (or not) depending on the quality of the animation/art skills or at least 'minimum viable quality level' of the people doing that side of things.

I'll send you a pm shortly.

Strip Chess comes to mind.
I take your pawn: I'm allowed to touch any exposed skin for 30 seconds. (if PxP, PxP, they share the 30 seconds)
I take a major piece: you lose an article of clothing that I choose, and 60 seconds of touching anywhere exposed.
I take your queen: lose all clothing and five minutes of non-penetrative touching.
check: you're required to masturbate for two minutes (harassment checks become devastating)
mate:you're mine for the evening

Sexy, right? But look at all the possible outcomes. Even if you simplify it vastly by letting the game pick which clothing comes off, you still have the problem that you either need a vastly clever AI, to have the characters make appropriate responses that aren't the same from game to game. If the player plays Alison, and then Kim, and Alison and Kim make the same squirming and noises - instant boredom. They'd need different arousal models....endless complexity and difficult art, which is why no one succeeds at this.

Spend some time looking over my stories- I recommend Why I Hate My Roommate, How I lost My babysitting job, Reinvinting porn, Why I love my Job, and Toymaker (in order of increasing darkness.) All those stories have movie-style flow, with well defined characters and plot. PM me if you think you can do something with them.

It sort of sells. Playboy would argue that it's diminishing in a flooded market. How do you sell a porn film in today's free Internet environment?

The real money is in subscriptions or in-game purchases, which means your content would have to constantly change and re-engage. You would also need a hook to grab that first dollar from a consumer. What exactly is the initial attractor?

The game will contain a variety of fetishes and will contain both hetero- and homoerotic content.
My guess is that this is a poor decision. If you want to appeal to the largest market possible, you'll want to stick to plain-vanilla a-guy-fucking-lots-of-different women sex.

My suggestion would be a plot similar to "And Then There Was None". A guy is stranded on an island with eight women, all of which are suspected of being murders. For free, you can watch the guy have sex with two of the women. The rest, you'll have to pay for. And the two women you can have sex with for free are the two least hot and they're the first two to die. Take to long to seduce them and you lose your free jollies.

It's a good question.

One idea that seem to work very well, at least using patreon.com, is to release the game for free - but only allowing those who pledges to get access to the latest builds.

It's a common tactic that seem to work, and the "initial attractor" there would be a functional demo and the assurance that the game is being constantly worked on.
If people see that new builds keep coming weekly or bi-weekly, even if it's only minor content, they seem eager to pledge. Provided that the game has quality artwork, of course.

For example, a couple of those games found at that site only releases actual erotic content maybe once or twice a month, but still have plenty of people who backs it. They just want more of it.

Though, just because a game has a plot doesn't mean it has to be (much) more difficult to get access to the erotica scenes. I don't think so, anyway.

As for limiting access, there are various ways to do that. As I wrote in my previous post, one way is to make the game "free" and only allowing those who pledges to get access to the latest builds.

I failed to actually address your points, I think I'm getting too tired!

You're right, it's certainly safer to do the vanilla stuff, but I've chosen not to. It's a risk, but I also think there is plenty of potential.

Besides, the game will contain vanilla stuff, so it will still be appealing to those who wants the hetero stuff only.

You may want to spend some time defining your target market. Targeting 'everyone' is not a business plan. You're better off with one well-targeted site, then if successful, developing a different targeted site using the same tech.

Marketing is a pain in the ass, but it's a pain in the wallet if you ignore it.
