I am trying to get meatless but I love meat. Don't even talk to me about tofu. It reminds me of jello flavored meat. The texture is awful.

This is an honest question. What is something I can make at home? Without taking two hours to make it.

Are you ok with eggs?

Tofu comes in different textures. Some quite firm. You can fry it in and Asian chili garlic sauce and the heat and flavour will burn your taste buds out. Try sautéing it with something.

Black beans and rice. Legumes are good replacements for meat.

Do you like mushrooms? I found that I didn't miss meat as much when I substituted shrooms.

Hummus is yummus. I was a vegetarian for about a year. Bacon lured me back to the dark side. But while I was avoiding meat, I discovered foods I would have ignored and I'm glad I tried them. Being vegetarian encourages you to try different things because it can get old quickly, eating the same things. Beans are awesome for getting your protein fix.

That one hasn't showed up where I live. I will try it when it gets here.

The problem I have with meat replacements is their ingredient list is two paragraphs long. With a whole bunch of chemicals I can't even pronounce.

What's in a name?

20 essential naturally occurring amino acids:

alanine
arginine
asparagine
aspartic acid
cysteine
glutamine
glutamic acid
glycine
histidine
isoleucine
leucine
lysine
methionin
phenylalanine
proline
serine
threonine
tryptophan
tyrosine
valine

Yes I have. Mushrooms have replaced meat a lot of times. They are good but I want variety. Mushrooms and eggplant have been my go to for a long time. I am looking for things I haven't thought about.

Dal and rice take 45 via stove top. Large salad with nuts on it. Eggless pasta with sauce.

Are you vegan or just vegetarian?

We eat meatless quite a bit; like you I dislike meat replacements but I don't mind tofu in its own right occasionally.

May I suggest looking at good that happens to be meatless, that doesn't benefit from meat? Pasta in unlimited ways, lots of Indian and other Asian meals ( these can be super quick ) and middle eastern food is brilliant.

Soups ( which often don't take long with non meat bases and can be light of filling and also can freeze well for providing meals on different days are also useful I think :).

Also, if you are still eatin some meat consist using it more wisely too? Stock from bones, sensible portions with extra put into different meals (a slightly over size steak that won't make two steaks does make s steak and enough meat for some thing else more veg based for example) .

If eggs are ok they are brilliant, soulless are easy, we used to have them weekly when we were both working because they are easy and cheap, eggs en cocotte, omelettes. My very favourite frittata is just grated onion and zucchini. Super quick. Super easy. There are a few very cool egg cook books if you want to be more ambitious :)
Good luck!

I do that. Leftover bones end up in soup. Soup is a good thing. Especially when it's cold. This may sound silly but I love hot soup in cold weather. Comfort food.

Pea soup, lentil soup, black bean soup addsome bread and salad and bam, you are eating veggie.
Do you need any recipes or cookbook recommendations?

I don't really know. I am just trying to find good food that doesn't involve meat.

Noor I love you but I didn't understand Dal and rice.

I hate fake meat replacements. Just make sure you make up for the lack of protein with veggies/legumes that are high in it.

Peas.
Spinach.
Kale.
Broccoli.
Sprouts.
Mushrooms.
Brussel Sprouts.
Artichokes.
Asparagus.

Yes that was exactly what I was looking for. Some suggestions.

A surprising number of people do not do well on it and get upset stomachs. Not part of its marketing :) people who
Like it love it though :)

I tried doing meat replacements when I was younger, but didn't really keen on 'em either. Some of them were okay, I won't lie. But that unique not-quite-there taste was always evident, no matter what.

Still, some people do want that feeling of "meat." Products like Quorn find their niche.

Thanks. How do you fit them in while cooking? Peas are my thing. I just add them and no one is the wiser.
