It is an excellent start. the EPA is a fine Employment Agency for lawyers who know little about the actual environment but sure know how to write regulations and issue fines. They don't do a lot of actual inspections.. most of that stuff is done on the local level like in my state by the Department of Environmental Quality.

You know how many farmers work at the Department of Agriculture? None. It's all lawyers. Same with the Department of energy.

I would love for all of the zip codes who prospered during the real estate crash go through their own crash. I would like to see property values in some of the priceiest zip codes in Virginia and Maryland drop by at least 75%.

It would take a lot of agencies abolished to accomplish that. It won't happen.

If those are your examples then I suggest Americans have little to complain about. I'm sticking with comparative western democracies. Danes and Irish have little energy reserves. And Canada has an 'ethnic' population of just as big a percentage as the US. The US has vast energy reserves too.

And the remark about 'homogenous population' hints that poverty is a result of ethnicity and race not a social-economic one.

Canada is resource rich nearly homogeneous outside of the cities and 90% of it is huddled within 50 miles of the US border...

And the others there are a perfect example of what I point out, small homogeneous "tribes" with a communal bonding of history, tradition and culture. It's easy to be a welfare state when you are looking out for your "own."

However you get a large, complex polyglot nation and what happens is not a sense of taking care of your tribe, but the competition for your tribe to get its "fair" share, and remember some tribes believe that "fair" means they deserve more than other tribes. This creates great political divides which can be exploited and increase the antipathy of those whom believe that they are being short-changed in the process.

Contract workers are almost the norm up here in factories. Many after losing good salaried jobs may turn to be self employed contractors. I retrained as a painter/drywaller/handyman. Contract labour companies pay shit and don't seem to like older workers.
