I like to say Happy Season because I think winter sucks and the only thing good about it is eating and drinking too much. The "season" allows that to go on indefinitely...;)

Yeah, I blame Dickens. Before Dickens, XMas as a holiday had about the same importance as Arbor Day. For the faithful, Easter was much more significant -- the blossoming of the promise, not the planting of its seed.

Now XMas drives major chunks of the global economy, marketing stuff people don't want or use. WTF did one relative give me a Cherokee language course, or another the same steampunk trinkets box every year? Don't tell me YOU have never exchanged improbabilities! Oh shit, another animatronic Santa...

But it's the spirit. Merry XMas, ya'll. Mele Kalikiamaki. Happy Hanukah. Super Solstice. Felice Navidad. Swingin' Saturnalia. Joyeaux Noel. Kool Kwaanza. Hail the return of the Sun to the northern hemisphere. 'Tis the season. Enjoy!

I like that. Pretty cool actually. This morning I watched an old movie about a young boy, about 5 or 6, and grown man in his 40s who struck up an unlikely friendship shortly before and leading up to Christmas. The boy was poor and pretty much roaming the streets while his mother was working to pay for bare necessities. The man was broke, having no family or friends, was disgruntled w/life and very negative and doing temp holiday work for post office at the loading/unloading dock. He found a letter from the boy to Santa asking for his dad to come home and also asked for a train set. The man grudgingly accepted the boy's visits, pretending to be an asshole, but was secretly writing the kid letters as Santa Clause. In the end the man spent Christmas day at the boy's apartment with the kid and his mom. When the kid left the room, the man sneaked in a gift wrapped present 'from Santa Clause' and put it under the Christmas tree. At the very end, the man and boy were assembling the train set. I think the man decided to go back to school to become an architect and build a home.
