Was watching an old Law and Order when Ice T got ticked off when a white college student referred to "brothers."
I have never used the word to describe black men but I never thought it was offensive.
Is "brothers" disrespectful? If so, why?

Ice T also acts surprised every time they explain to him that there's a guy who is a paedo. "You mean to tell me this guy likes diddling kids?"

Dude, you've been in SVU for like 15 years. You should know this by now.

Not disrespectful to the following white folks:
  • Motorcycle Gang Members
  • Consecrated but not Ordained Clergy
  • Allmans
  • Anyone addressed by Hulk Hogan

I liked that Law & Order with the crazy guy. Whatever happened to it? Oh yeah...he went crazy.

Couple things I learned when I went to Tokyo.

It's bad form to stick your chopsticks vertically into your rice since that's what they do at funerals.

You never pour your own beer. You always pour everybody else. Also, when your done drinking, you signal that your done by leaving your glass full.

When you are on an escalator, you either stand on the left side if you are not in a hurry or you walk on the right side if you are in a hurry. Don't splay your arms out and block like an asshole.

Don't point with an individual finger. If you do gesture, you point with your entire hand.

You don't tip. When you pay at a restaurant/etc, you don't hand the money directly to the cashier. There is typically a dish in front of the cashier where you place the money.

I remain mystified.

cultural appropriation as an excuse to claim pseudo copyright infringement in order to justify aggression ?

I avoid those awkward encounters by using the proper english words. I especially like the word negress...it has an elegance to it.

^^^This is typically the point in the conversation when Ishmael and/or AJ jumps in with how much they enjoy the word "niggardly".

Context dependent, I assume.

Pullin' the Chief's man card!

Hey speakin' of moobs, Mr. Undescended Testes, you talk a really good trash-talk game. I've posted a pic of me shirtless here, why don't you do the same? Hmmm? You said you could man-splain your claim that although bein' six feet tall and 240 pounds, you weren't fat.....it was due to working tirelessly at the dojo to build up "muscle". Let's see it!

You'll recall I made the same challenge to your fellow Marine washout the Vettebigot, and he tucked tail and ran away. You're much much moar braver than him though, with your home arsenal and two black belts.

Nut up or shut up, Gunny Tubby.

Side note to your sweet transvestite enabler, same challenge goes to you (since I know you cannot resist sticking up for your off-board bro)

Noooo, not the Tits of Death!!....they already killed Vette!

My job here is not quite done yet.

You may remember that our Sweet Transvestite swore a Holy Oath upon the misshapen skull of his youngest child to "protect" certain conservative posters (Miles, Koalabear, Vetty, AJ and Ishmael) from teh Meanness of RobDownSouth.

That was two+ years ago.

The butcher's bill since then:
  • Vetty - Gone
  • Miles - Gone
  • Koalabear - Dead
  • Ishmael - Prostate Cancer (removed from list because he flamed Queerbait). Temporarily banned.
  • AJ - Atrial Fibrillation, Pneumonia X 2

Lit's self-proclaimed "Board Sheriff" has done a spectacularly inept job at protectin' his charges.

For me it comes down to "are you my friend". I don't take liberties with slang if I don't know you.

You are all racists, and its best just to shut the fuck up because evry word whites say is racist filth.

The Urban Dictionary says it's an inoffensive term, so there!

negress
the female equivalent to a negro.
(not offensive)

white gurl:wassup negress?
black gurl:wassup caucasia?

So if two black guys are trying to reach an agreement on, for example, the sale of a car, would it be inappropriate to refer to the talks toward consummating the sale "negrotiations"?

I know in advance it won't work with negresstiations.

What kind of "white college student" would refer to blacks as "brothers" in the presence of an LEO?

If the student in question were involved in the struggle against injustice, they would get a pass in this case.

If on the other hand they were employing the word sarcastically or in a spirit of mockery, they would not get a pass.

As a street wise and worldly man, Ice T would certainly know the difference.

In the episode it would have been an insult if the two were not real-life brothers. This "student" would not get a pass.
