Vintage 40 Prime THREE

True.. the explanation was that in the past a trained volunteer interviewed the family and guided the children to reasonable requests, this year the pre-qualified families made their wish requests online.

Unreasonability makes me wonder who is actually making these requests.

It's all horrible. But that is all these kids see, i-this and tech that. they all got a phone. Schools need computers and internet to teach. Get a kid a jump rope, a book or a bike and you're a horrible person. Maybe a board game. Oh My Gawd you are a white elitist if you don't buy some kid what his parents don't want to work for, save for. Nobody "puts away for Christmas" or uses lay away. It's all credit cards and instant gratification.

With Christmas and two children's birthdays in the same three week period I learned a long time ago to set a little something aside every pay period and to shop all year round as well. Coming up on Christmas eve I would be tossing closets looking for that gift I knew I got for someone and tucked away.

And this afternoon I stood in front of the board game display in the store and looked for things to drop off for Toys For Tots but even though my kids loved them I never hear of children playing with them these days so I walked on. And since the store didn't have an 'Angel Tree' I left without getting anything for someone else. I did drop something in the kettle for the bell ringer and will make a drop at my coffee shop for the food bank.

Doing the grocery shopping on a Friday night sucks at Walmart.

Who agrees?

That old fashion way seems to work.

One family adopted by the company I work at had two young teenage girls basically demand that we not only purchase them iPhones, but pay for their plan! The Chief Economic Officer told her parents that we will not be getting the girls this. We received a short email response.

"Good! And thank you for willing to tell our daughters that they are acting like spoil rotten kids."

What about buying them new computers with a year of free internet, that's the 21st. century way.

*Gasp*.

Not sure where all the entitlement in today's culture comes from. I know that I always carried a little guilt after Christmas because I knew how much my parents had given up to make sure we kids had toys and a good Christmas. I was happy with one or two presents. Mom used layaway, and year round shopping. Another thing that's bugging me is everybody wanting to know what I want for Christmas. I'm not telling because i want to see what I will get. I usually mean it when I say I don't want anything. I've had some extremely rough Christmases since 2003. It takes a bit to get in the mood. As much as I like Texas, it lacks snow and I do sorta need that to get in the mood.

This year I will have my family with new Daughter in law here. We're getting to the point where the kids may or may not be here on Christmas, like all families get too eventually as the kids grow and move out. So, I'll just be happy with that. Besides on Christmas Day I will have 29 days left in the Army.

When we were children our parents wanted a wish list straight out of the Sears catalog, complete with page numbers. Took a lot of the thrill out of Christmas morning. Only a couple of Christmas' we were actually surprised with our gifts. I still remember one time, Mom was hospitalized from a car accident the week before, all the gifts were stolen out of the trunk at the impound yard, so Dad sent older sister out to shop. I actually got a couple of books as part of my gifts that year. One I kept until I passed it on to my son as a teen. It was a bittersweet holiday but the only time in all my growing up years that the family gave me books. :D

The best Christmas present I ever got was simply being in the same room with the sweet little Italian nurse who I was engaged to many years ago. Sometimes I think that life could have been one long dream if I had had the sense to work things out with her. Other times I think that we were just too different from one another to have ever stuck together. However I always remember her with heart felt love and I would trade in all of the other presents I have ever received to relive one of our days together.

Oh Man I loved the Sears Roebuck Christmas catalog. We'd pour over it for hours dreaming of what we could get. Making a Christmas list, and wondering what we'd get. Sometimes it would be from the list, sometimes not. My Grandma always got us Coloring books and clothes. Mom would hand make (crocheting) something. Mittens or a hat. The most awkward Christmas was the one after my brother was KIAed in Nov of '05. One of the best was when I was a kid and my Aunt Barb was knocked out by my aunt Rosie and Uncle Junior and my Dad almost got into it but realized they were both trying to break it up. My Mom and her sister Gail were fixing to throw down too but my Grandpa started yelling at them to knock it off. Good times.

That catalog was a book of dreams for sure..

Got moved in on Sunday. Now it's unpacking and reorganization hell. There is an incredible amount of storage here so I'll be down sizing even more. I had to dump the college loft and it looks like I'll probably have to grow up and get a real bed soon. The new landlords are so awesome everything I turn around there is something cool they've done as a surprise here for me. They put an American flag out in the garden area by my door. My outside light is green to honor my veterans and my bedroom wall accent color is police blue. They even put some cool butterfly night lights thru the place so I can see at night. They are so beautiful. Dixie the cat is turning out to be a cuddle kitty.

I'm really stuff and sore but the guys got me moved over in 2 hours, 2 trips and before the 10:30 Church service across the street when traffic gets crazy. I got pictures of how bad the old place was incase the slumlords try to mess with me.

I am glad you got it all moved!

starry, a big, big job is behind you now!! Yes, I know that there is unpacking and rearranging yet ahead . . . but great new beginnings for you! :)

Thx! Still feels like a ton more work to go.

I'm still pretty overwhelmed and hurting bad. Feels a lot like I'm back on the road living in a hotel.

Take it slow and easy in the unpacking, Starry. It will feel like home soon enough!

Feels a lot like I'm back on the road living in a hotel.

It has been that way through most of my life. :(

Unfortunately most of my moves were over long enough distances for me to have to leave behind most of my friends each time with just drips and drabs of contact thereafter until things finally faded out completely.

I miss a lot of material possessions that got thrown out or left behind each time but I miss even more being able to have a stable social life. For a "shy guy" like me it is murder to try to reestablish myself. Now I live as if I am in witness protection.

The old landlords were so excited I am out. The one who ignores most my texts was hitting me with how to turn off the DISH service. He didn't know I'd turned it off the week after they told me I had to leave. Then the other one wanted to know my new address. WTH ??? So I just said I was staying with our city council lady and her family. We lived over by the museum. If they don't know who our city council lady is then they can look it up. What they gonna mail me a bill or a freaking Christmas card??? Not like they could bother to be helpful or caring.

Sounds like they're ready to send you a bill for fixing the damages "you" caused.

Gpod to see you moving to a better place. Screw them guys if they want to find you make them do the work. They'd probably trump up some service charge or bull shit.

That is similar to what I went through with the Landlady from Hell many years ago. I can not put enough time or space between her and me.
