After Trump's campaign got rolling I saw how he was applying Hitler's rules, and predicted his victory. He won. The Democrats broke many of the rules.

Hitler said successful campaigns use two prominent monsters for the people to hate: One must be an economic peril, and the other must be a source of violence. Hitler had the Allies as an economic threat, and Communists as the violent threat. Trump had Mexico and Islam.

The winning side carries the ethic majority working class.

And the winning side must carry the military, police, and other national institutions.

Hitler got appointed chancellor because a majority of Reichstag members were willing to work with the Nazis but not with each other. It was Hitler or nobody. Hindenberg didn't like Hitler.

He is correct though. Hitler or the Nazis did not win an election. They had plenty of votes, but never a majority of any sort.

Hitler's rise to power came from forming a coalition, being a great communicator and being appointed chancellor, and then using intimidation and violence to pass the Enabling Act, which allowed him to act without interference, towards his dictatorship.
Even then, he did not achieve full dictatorial power until after Hindenburg's death.

In July 1932 Hitlers party won 37% of the vote. The Socialists came 2nd with 21%. A bunch of minor parties got less.

The Nazis vote in November 32 fell but they were still significantly the largest party.

So who won? Hint: Hitler had absolute power by February 33 - no violence, no military coup, just German Democracy.

Thru the Weimar Republic Period German political parties need nor prevail with qa majority of popular vote. Hillary got 2.5 million more votes than Trump and lost the election here. Germany was similar back then. The Nazis or any party could collect a healthy chunk of the popular vote and take home lotsa seats in the Reichstag. similar to our American primaries.

In 1933 the communists hated the socialists more than the Nazis, and Hitler was the only option for a coalition government. However you count it, Hitler won the election.
