Okay, How'd they do That?

Lately I've been seeing stories that do allowing comments, but only from logged in users. These stories will not accept any comments from that famous author's nemesis named Anonymous.

At first I thought maybe the author was just diligent at deleting comments left by Anonymous... But when I looked at the screen for leaving a comment at the end of these stories, the choice to leave a comment as Anonymous was missing; gone; outta there; and completely unavailable.

Further, if I wasn't logged-in at all... The "leave a comment" screen insisted I log-in before I could submit the comment. This doesn't show up on very many stories. So far I've only seen two or three stories that have this "feature". I've also only noticed it in the last few days... That doesn't mean that this is new. It's just something I recently noticed.

I looked on the story submission pages and see nothing where I can deny all Anonymous comments while continuing allow comments from logged in users. I still only see the single selection button to either allow or not allow all comments.

How the heck did these authors manage to pull this one off?

Go to your author's page, click on "Options" under "Main" on the column on the left, change "Accept Anonymous Feedback" from "yes" to "no."

Is this new, or is is this something I just missed when it came out?

Also, would be nice to be able to apply this on a per story basis rather than globally.

No that you say it's been around forever I remember seeing it.

I would still like to be able to apply the no anonymous rule on a story by story basis rather than for everything.

I have regretted it. The number of comments has dropped significantly but that anon hasn't been back under their own name.

I don't worry about it. I get some wonderfully offensive comments from anonymous on some of my stories. The gook slut ones I love. Sooooo original. The really awful ones I just delete. If they're creative, I leave them up. Good creative well written trolling is so fun to read. And so unusual.

That was my attitude and had been for years. But one particular individual had been going through my back catalogue to leave abuse portrayed as critical feedback. It wasn't serious enough to report but was irritating.

Their attitude was so weird that I think they might have had to seek forgiveness for the sin of being on Literotica at all.

I suspect it was a 'real male' who was ashamed of liking some of my femdom stories.

Not really. Check out the comments on just about every story in Loving wives. The nasty ones are always anonymous.

Logged in users have a name associated with what they say. There can be consequences. That is one of the reasons a lot of authors post comments under anonymous.

Not in mine. Never been called a gook by a signed in user. Not that it worries me, but real comments, even negative ones, are a lot different from abusive trolls. There are somd real weirdos out there. A bit less so for guys, but I think anyone wigh a female userid on lit gets interesting messages. If you write as well, lets just say it pays to be cautious. Some people have a hard time distinguishing fiction from reality. I've already had one story written about me, altho he did ask me first.

Ultimately I think the anon comments, especially the negative ones, have been good for me as a writer. It's not easy to hear when folks abuse your carefully crafted story baby, but it does force you to toughen up and not be so sensitive. Learning to be objective and open-minded can only help us grow as writers. That said, you do open yourself up to the abusive comments...one of mine was "you should just go kill your self" (I think they didn't like my writing haha )

Yeah it would be nice to be able to, but you can shut off comments and voting on a story by story basis.

By and large I get a huge kick out of the so called Troll comments that routinely get attached to my stories. Usually when I relate the content of the comment to what I wrote in the story, it's pretty easy to read between the lines of the comment and know exactly what in the story caused ol' Anonymous so much angst and rage.

Generally, it seems like Anonymous gets some sort of sexual excitement over something in t he story, and that excitement is a part of themselves that they absolutely hate. Then they lash out. The comments I get where the reader is so worked up that they can only string together a few vicious slurs in an incomplete sentence are priceless. I wouldn't want to block any of these comments. They are way too much fun.

Given the enjoyment I get from Anonymous, I rarely complain about comments, and usually don't delete them. On a few occasions I've left up comments that were so vile that the site admins removed them. There isn't a name anyone can call me that will hurt me, and I guess I just don't take my writing all that seriously.

That being said, I do have a couple of stories that I am a little more proud of. Stories that weren't written with a proverbial stick poking away at someone's sexual inadequacies. I haven't posted these yet, but I will when they are finished. For these stories I'd love to be able to switch off comments from users that will only say what they want if they can hide behind that wall of anonymity.

Yes, I have done this on a couple of stories. Anonymous never returns. At least he hasn't on mine

I did that before the Winter Holidays contest.

The total number of comments has dropped significantly but the votes are way, way up, far more than I would expect for my contest entries.
