Twitter was created in March 2006 and didn't officially emerge into the service of what we know of it now until March 2007 after that year's SXSW showcase. (iPhones came out in June of 2007, which changed the whole shebang as well)

There's no need for you to research further if you don't know about him now, but if you really want to know the deal over the hoopla going on now, I'd suggest getting into all of his craft and media presence post-Amber Rose and pre-Kim Kardashian via internet. He just did that one album 808s And Heartbreaks entirely in autotune, but the rest of his stuff is all him as he is with the occasional track using some modulation effect.

Brilliant producer, but his ego dims all the lights he's lit up. I'd say the last thing he put out that was on point was My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy and the Watch The Throne collab with JayZ. Everything after that was when the ego/asshole factor started overriding his talent and focus, IMO.
