the left won it for trump

Bottom line is that 80% of voters didn't bother to vote. They gave up their right to complain, now get over it and move on. Remember how you feel today when the mid term elections come around.

Maybe I'm missing something. It's my understanding that more people registered to vote than ever before, that Clinton won the popular vote, but not the electoral college. So, how is this an issue of voters not bothering to vote, and get over it and move on.

Irrational. They, and the people who voted 3rd parties have the most right to complain.

They didn't put Trump there. The DNC did.

Clinton won the popular vote, but not the electoral college.

Right that means she LOST.

So, how is this an issue of voters not bothering to vote, and get over it and move on.

Because not enough people voted for her in enough states to win and no amount of marching, vandalism, violent acts of racism, sexism or just plain ol' crying like a crybaby is going to change it.

So now it's time to get over it, and move on. :)

Anyone who blames "the left" is either stupid or a willfully deceitful shill who needs to be smack in the face hard.

Clinton underperformed Obama in every single demographic. Every single fucking one. And she got less votes in 2016 than Romney did in 2012. That has nothing to do with racism, sexism, Jill Stein, Bernie Sanders, the left, or the weather. It has everything to do with Hillary Clinton being the worst candidate fielded by a major party in the modern era and the DNC rendering the entire purpose of a primary--weeding out the shitty candidates--irrelevant by clearing the field for a candidate they knew was shitty and then tipping the scale in her favor when somebody viable ran against her anyway.

^Exactly.

And the right could share some of the blame as well. If you put forward nothing but extremists like Ted Cruz or Rick Santorum, or extremist wackos like Carson as your party's presidential candidates, it should be no surprise that a candidate with more moderate views should end up being the nominee, despite that candidate's glaring flaws (boorish, hot tempered, crude, arrogant, etc.) People will vote for a presidential candidate who represents their views. The Republican establishment had moved too far right and were out of touch with the mainstream public. Not like the far left democrats were much better, mind you.

But it came down to boorish, crude obnoxious outsider versus dishonest, shady, career politician, and frankly most people thought both of them sucked- just which of them sucked less. I didn't vote for Trump (for the record) but I wasn't exactly proud to have voted for Hillary either.

Incorrect. National turnout of registered voters was ~56% -- pathetically low, but not as dire as you say. California had record-high registrations but only 33.3% turnout -- better that the indeed dire ~21% of 2012 but still drastic. I see 2016 nationally as a vote of No Confidence in the political system. Both major parties work for their corporate donor class, not the 98%. And yes, Tromp will install the same players who fucked-over USA previously. The super-rich got richer and the rest of us got fucked. Expect a return.

They gave up their right to complain, now get over it and move on.
Correct, sort of. I suspect the abstainers are those who are most fucked-over by the system. Future complaints will come in the form of violence.

You don't know enough to discuss the subject.

Sorry, did I offer an opinion here? No, I didn't. Am I trying to discuss the subject? No, I'm not. If you guys want to elect an international figure of fun as your president, it is entirely your affair. The fact that we have an equally implausible foreign secretary is ours.

I posted the clip because I find the Jonathan Pi character amusing, I thought that on this subject people in the US might also be interested. If seeing the way the situation is portrayed elsewhere. If that offends you then I am surprised that you post on this board.

I couldn't get through Pi's self-righteous rant, so I have no idea who he blamed for this fiasco, and there's plenty of finger pointing going around as it is. This is what gets me, after an election where conservatives used to consider character important in an elected official, suddenly character means jack shit. Your posting this "amusing" video is like an American posting an "amusing" video on UK politics by an American ex pat, especially after the Brexit vote. I am surprised you thought that everyone would find your video amusing.

Wow. Of all the pathetic posters here, you may just be the pinnacle. Pathetic bigot.

Ig is such a lovely feature. It hides the racist misogynist trolls whose only joy in life is spreading their 24/7 misery around.

You have the gall to sling those smears at me after your display of pathetic bigotry in this very thread?

Little wonder you have to ignore half the board. Else you might become aware of your own deeply flawed character and your innate hypocrisy.

I can only assume no one else wants to talk to you either.

No Lady you are wrong, it was decided on character and Hilary lost because she was not authentic enough to the 'great unwashed', as Teddy R alluded. It is her destiny to be shallow Parade Leader, who sees the world in a us:them basis. She is a B- grade liar and so enough people saw her as inauthentic and out of touch with their world view. SHe has live so long in the rarefied air of politics that she can not see the faces of the people, or at least she can not convince a lot of people.

She was rejected by the system for lack of trust. Trump was elected because he was not Hillary. He is an asshole but he ain't Hillary.

We didn't need American Ex pats, We had your president telling us how to vote in the Brexit referendum. He was making threats like "Britain would go to the back of the Queue" as far as trade deals were concerned. However. for many people, that was a good reason to vote Leave.

Perhaps Jonathan Pi was a little too much to spring on an unsuspecting US audience. He represents something a lot of political journalists would identify with. He is supposed to be a journalist who thinks he knows what is going on, but has to present everything the way his station wants it. His anger this time is directed at his know nothing producer who got sent to the US to cover the election but still doesn't understand what happened. It's a pity that you didn't watch because he talks about Brexit as well. His argument in both cases is that the vote was lost due to complacency and failure to communicate with the people.

I don't understand US politics, who does? The idea that when you say what party you support when you register to vote, seems ridiculous. This is why I have refrained from comment about the result. I thought you might be interested to see how it was presented elsewhere. Perhaps that was expecting too much.

We got Trump because America wanted a thug to get Lady Vers attention. Trump is the club of normal America, and freaks better take notice. He's Lady Ver's wake up call. Her bullshit is on break till 2020.

My son had shared the video a few days earlier on FB. He thought it was hilarious. Maybe due to the political climate here and Trump's win, my sense of humor has taken a beating. My son's political leanings are similar to mine, but he has youth on his side, and he has an odd sense of humor anyway. :) Personally, I think the election ended as it did because there are too many angry people across the political spectrum, many of whom without critical thinking skills. Whoever won, there was going to be protests, or armed rebellion.
