So my first story was rejected, I'm heartbroken but I'll get over it, can someone please explain how with an iPad I can write a story keep it and put it up on here, the story I submitted I wrote on my day off directly into the submissions box and now it's lost forever I can't change or sort it, thanks so much for any assistance given, love Vonnie xx

This is probably not the best thread for story writing, submitting, and editing.

Just use any simple text writing program. On Microsoft Notepad works fine. You don't need Word or anything like that. Anything but just typing into submission box. You may not have lost the submission.

The reason I used here is because the authors thread !! Let's be honest there a bit up themselves don't you think

Do you use Gmail? There's Google docs and you'd be able to access your writing from anywhere you have an internet connection.

https://www.google.com/docs/about/

Thanx for that but is it easy to get my document for a to b using an iPad I'm a big apple fan but starting to think there systems are over protective and restrictive all I want is to be able to write a story save it and put it up here yet my iPad won't let me !! Or in reality I'm to stupid to work out how 😭

Doesn't your iPad have the TextEdit app? My iMac does, but I don't know what comes installed on an iPad.

I don't know if Laurel still has access to a rejected story, but if anyone does it would be her. You could send her a PM and ask if she can retrieve it.

Do you have a local public library? A lot of them are becoming tech-centric with staff available to show you how to work your device.

Once posted on Lit it is as well. *shrugs*

That's very true. But at least its posted on a site with your name-pen name-behind it and some backing as to whether its yours. If they pull it from the cloud there's no history of it being anyone's but theirs.

But yeah, the net is one stop shopping for thieves

Unless she is JK Rowling, she has little to fear in this regard.

Writing a story directly into the submission box isn't the way to do it.
Sorry, dumb comment, you know that now!
You must have an email account?
Just compose the story as an email to yourself.
Then read it carefully for errors yourself, and edit it.
Then email it to someone you have met on literotica who you have met and trust for their comments, or one of the many literotica volunteer editors. They will spot little mistakes that you missed.
Only then, submit the story!

You must have the story in your head so it shouldn't be too hard to write it out again.

Never type anything you care about directly into a browser (aka: to the web). This is because

1) browsers crash and internet connections break, and you risk losing everything. (Google docs does a good job of keeping what you type as you go, but it's not foolproof.)

2) Everything you type into a browser, even to a secure site, is automatically fair game to the NSA. You may not care, but you might care a lot. You might not care now, but depending on who gets elected, you might care someday.

3) Many things you type into a browser, sometimes even when using secure sites, is fair game to thieves. It would suck to have someone publish your story before you do; you'll never convince anyone it's yours.

4) Even if all goes perfectly and you use secure, password protected sites with good encryption, your password probably sucks. Most peoples' do. Even if yours is good, the site you're using is probably protected with the security equivalent of with shiny wrapping paper, not a locked steel box. They'll get hacked someday, and it could be today.

Basically, do your editing on a local, encrypted disk until you're really ready to show it to the world. It's not harder; you're likely to find the editing goes faster; and there's a decent chance you won't become prey for unscrupulous people.

You're writing about topics that some people, some of them quite unbalanced, care deeply about. Some of them can't tell fiction from reality. Why take pointless chances?

I would not go anal over encryption and anonymity re: anything you intend to publish here -- unless your work notes detail crimes you did or will commit. Few will be at all interested in your amateur scribblings. If you take the email-it-to-yourself approach, be careful not to accidentally CC your family, friends, cow-orkers, political network, etc.

In fact you could take the exact opposite approach. Start an anonymous blog and enter your text there. Keep the blog private and password-protected if you're shy. Or make it public and receive comments on your work-in-progress. Let it all hang out.

Yes, it's sort of a headscratcher that you'd go all secret on creating a story you're going to dump, totally unprotected, into a free-use, easily copied Web site for free.

I hope your punctuation in your posts is not an indication of the punctuation in your stories. Because that would probably get it rejected. They're not super-fussy here, but it has to conform to the basic rules of punctuation.

There are volunteer editors here who can help you with that.
