Clear victory for President Putin's United Russia party in recent Duma elections, with an increase in support from 49% to 54% of the vote and an increase of 105 seats.

All major opposition parties lost ground, with the Communists and ultranationalists both finishing with 13% of the vote.

As usual, pro-"western" liberal parties were a non-factor.
