On top of that, the message to their employees often is: "You're just a nomber on a payroll; you're not valuable and you can be replaced at any time."
So in Some (not all, because overall I was lucky and had excellent experiences in that regard) cases you see backstabbing or people trying to undermine others for personal gain.

Workplace bullying has and will always exist, regardless of the system. But it tends to be even worse in institutions with those types of managers and culture.
Because on top of the above, some people feel dissatisfied and disempowered in all sorts of ways (remuneration for some, loss of meaning or feelong devalued for others) so they start taking it on each other.
