I don't get it. Why do Hispanics WANT to be considered a "race" when they aren't a race?
Why do American Hispanics accept being lumped together with blacks for political purposes when they never suffered slavery or widespread segregation in the US (I know there were isolated local incidents of segregation here or there, but there were against white ethnic groups too, it wasn't national or systematic).
Wouldn't it make more sense for Hispanics to be viewed similar to other ethnic groups like Greek Americans, Italian Americans, Polish Americans, etc, than blacks?
Seems like they have more in common with whites than with blacks.
