How long for a story to be approved?

Hi all. I submitted my first story about 24 hours ago and still see it pending submission.
Is this normal? Do they only get approved on weekdays?
Thanks in advance.

Being that you are a new writer, it may take as long as 4-6 days. There is only one person reviewing all stories and new authors usually get closer scrutiny.

Also, do not play with the pending button. If you happen to hit submit again, it will kick you to the end of the line.

Good luck and welcome to the AH.

The Summer Lovin' contest is running. Any contest stories are given priority so non-contest stories take a little longer.

Thanks everyone. I'll keep a look out this week in that case.
Hopefully the first of many stories.

I submitted edits to two of my stories a week and a half ago. I'm assuming something like that is on the bottom rung of the priority ladder, because they're still pending.
They can sit there all month, if need be. There's no rush, which I think is the point :)

Story by a new author can take up to 10 days sometimes. I know the feeling as I used to wake up each morning and open the submission page hoping the story is finally approved.

I've submitted my story again with some edits and apparently that can take even longer as they are not considered as priorities...

Deletes and Edits are the last to be processed. My last edit took a week and a half to get approved.

It also helps speed things up if you include the link to the story being replaced(edited) or deleted. FYI.

I've just noticed a typo in my latest contest entry.

In one place I wrote Mt instead of Mr. I'm not going to do an edit if that typo is all. There is another small inconsistency that I have noticed in the timing of events. I don't think it matters to the story. It is an inconsistency, not an impossibility.

I don't believe in editing any of my stories that are contest entries while the contest is running. That's my choice, not a requirement. I think my story should remain unaltered during the contest. If there is anything seriously amiss with it I'll submit an edit AFTER the contest has ended.

Good for you. In a real contest, once you'd submitted it, that was it.

My first was approved in about 24 hours. Same with my second. My third which is part 2 of my second submission has been sitting there saying pending awaiting approval since September 2nd! I'm starting to think it's not going to be approved.
Usually within a few hours there's a date by the pending but this one still says awaiting approval.

I wouldn't let it go longer than the 7th without asking Laurel about it by PM. I've had a few drop in the cracks in recent months. The one I submitted yesterday already has a pending date to post tomorrow.

Yeah I'm thinking this isn't normal. I was going to go ahead and submit part three but thought I better wait in case something is wrong with part two.

That's probably wise. I always wait on submitting parts of a series until the previous one has posted.
