I like that one. Eating bugs doesn't bother me. My objection to meat and processed foods is complete distrust of for-profit corporations having my health as a concern. Unprocessed, free-range, wild bugs would be fine. Even domesticated bugs would be fine if I knew and trusted the bug rancher.

It's not really a big deal with me. I have no nutritional need to eat meat, therefore I don't.

Many years ago, as a sheet metal worker, I did work in meat plants and meat departments at chain markets. What I saw wasn't pretty. They use everything but the moo.
 
Yeah, you've been everywhere and done everything--including any other scenario anyone comes up with here. You did that too.

Yeah, eventually, they do. The parts that don't look so good on a supermarket shelf get sent to a rendering plant. I worked in one as a teen as a summer job. The parts went into a big receiving pit with dead dogs, livestock, meat processing plant waste and McDonald's grease trap solids. The whole mess got screw conveyored to a huge walk-in Cuisinart, then the dead animal mush was pumped into a 3000 gallon pressure cooker. Didn't keep the recipe. Sorry.

The solids were pulled out, ground to a powder and made into a "protein supplement" for various livestock feeds. A cruel joke on those animals as they were mostly not carnivores.

The liquid was siphoned off, refined and kept as tallow. The finest grades went to cosmetic companies to make things like lipstick. Kiss, kiss.

The plant I worked in was in Vernon, part of the City of Los Angeles. Hot, unbelievable stench that never washed out of your clothes. We walked around at lunch time eating greasy burritos off the roach coach. Surprisingly, I didn't make a career of it. Sometimes cooking odors, usually from broccoli or other sulfur-bearing veggies, will give me flashbacks to that summer.

It might even be part of my aversion to brussel sprouts.

Sweet taters are good. No bananas or beets, but miracle whip over mayonnaise every day.

During a university break - many, many years ago - I worked in an abattoir. You are right, James. It's a nose-to-tail business. I spent my last couple of weeks there grading tallow. It's amazing the jobs that half a science degree will get you. :)

In my humble opinion, Brussels sprouts are best roasted - and finished with a drizzle of honey. Yum. :)

Crunchy on the outside, chewy in the middle, anything rather than the horror that is balut; I've eaten weird, strange, unusual, and when occasion demanded, downright nasty, but balut still tops my list of the nightmare foods of the world - once seen never forgotten, and watching someone else eat it always turns my stomach...
 
I'm with those on Kimchi. Evil incarnate. It can clear a room.

Also with the texture issues people.

I like food without surprises. If I expect soft, I don't want to find hidden crunch or anything else. Nothing is worse than having some nice creamy yogurt, and suddenly coming across a piece of slimy strawberry or blueberry. --Shudder--

Raw tomatoes, worst food on the planet if you have texture issues. There's skin, hard stuff, slimy jelly stuff, random pockets of seeds everywhere.

Do not touch fish of any kind. Wish I had the taste for it; but no
