It was out of character for me, as I'm generally not into drugs or woo-woo, but I like introspection, new experiences, and indulging my curiosity. It was an interesting and mostly enjoyable experience; I am still processing. Has anyone else done it? Considered it? Heard of it?

Have I ever tripped balls?

Sure.

Didn't even need a shaman or to pay have people enjoy the experience with me.

What did you think of it? What was it like? Would you do it again?

It's the only major hallucinogen I haven't tried.

I found cacti and stopped.

Though I'd never turn down the opportunity. DMT is on the bucket list.

Nobody needs others to enjoy one of those experiences, everyone needs a babysitter.

Heard of it - mainly by reading "the Yage Letters".

IMHO quite an interesting one to try, in the right context. The side effects give you fair warning that it's about to take effect, too.

Ayahuasca?

God bless you.

Gee, thanks. God bless you, too!

Is that where they stick candles in your ears? I think I'm obsessed with ears.

My ears are very sensitive and sensual. Do you like that pasta that looks like little ears? Or would you to prefer to eat a bowl full of tiny ears? No ear candle quackery - just drum circle and white people playing at Amazonian hallucinogen quackery. The drum circle and the nutters who surrounded me were among my least favorite parts, but I did see pretty colors. Also, in the throes of it, I thought about a stunningly beautiful poem you posted once, about the soul missing the body after death. I shall have to look for it.

Ah, Vat. You're such a little bitch. Trust me, I was not in it for the shaman. He made me cringe. I think he knew even less science than you! He was super hot though, so maybe there's something to it.

It's good to have a few friends for what seems like deep conversation as you come down. But yes, a simple mirror can amuse you for hours....

We always did it as a group as we would hit downtown Waikiki. It was always expensive for me as I always wondered off and paid a shit load of cover charges as I wandered from bar to bar only having one drink as I made a lap and left.

Ooh that sounds lovely. And you can get it on Amazon then? I'd be interested in ordering but instead of seeing lovely colours and remembering poems I'd probably think I was being gang raped by a bunch of Makos in blonde wigs and die of a massive heart attack.

And if they aren't making pasta in the shape of human ears I want to know WHY FUCKING NOT? Mads would approve of this. Imagine the cheese clinging in the whorls. Sweet Mother Mary, I've missed you on here.

Slow your roll princess. I didn't mean to shit in your Cheerios. It was a joke.

What did you think of it? What was it like? Would you do it again?

It seemed to take a while to kick in, so I thought I might be one of the few people who isn't effected on their first try, but then before I realized it, I felt overwhelmingly warm happy feelings and sensations and started having whacky (whackier than usual, anyway) mental images. Really colorful and fast, but I wasn't out of my mind and still had a conscious running internal monologue about what was happening. I was in a room with other people and some of them were being very loud and giggly and I think I would have preferred more quiet. I wasn't into the whole ceremony part in general and probably rolled my eyes a lot, but I liked that it meant people were taking it seriously. I didn't get sick and I didn't have any life-changing revelations, but I enjoyed it and would do it again.

Oh, and when I walked around, everything has this sparkly sort of blur effect, which was fun.

It's the only major hallucinogen I haven't tried.

It's the only one I've ever tried. Go big or go home, yanno?

Yes, it was nice to know there were people to look after you. I didn't "purge," as they so euphemistically put it, but I'm sure the people who did appreciated having someone there swap out their bucket. Yuck.

I had seen a documentary a few hours ago and was intrigued. I did a lot of research leading up, and my experience was different than most of what I read from others. I think it's different for everyone.

Yes, in the "spirit quest" category on Amazon. I'd forgotten about those spiky-toothed bitches in lace fronts. Hmm. You could probably conjure up a giant lizard in fishnets to chase them off!

I've missed you too, my one true cunty. My ears had grown arid, but for you, they are GEYSERS.

Mmm, Hands Mikkelson.

Don't worry, Vat! I know you can't control where you shit and I don't hold it against you

Oh I'm talking about a threshold trip where you aren't going anywhere and totally lose touch with reality.

The kind of trip where you NEED a bro there who can put your ass on the ground and hog tie you should you start to do something dangerous. Cuz that shit can and does happen. At least on acid or mescaline it can....IDK about DMT but from what I've heard it's more than possible for folks on that cosmic journey to hurt themselves or others.

It's the only one I've ever tried. Go big or go home, yanno?

Right on, idk if I would suggest acid...maybe I didn't get the best and have considered making my own because I think I may have gotten shit product.

But mescaline whoooo I swayer tew GAWD!

Going full threshold on mescaline is a cosmic journey. Gawd is in the skin of cacti sister.....plants are the magical gateway. :D

Yea that nasty shit too....sometimes if you get a heavy duty dose or someone is sensitive they could Hendrix themselves and need that babysitter there to put them on their side so they don't drown in their own vom. Which I know for a fact happens because it did last year to some lady in Santa Cruz.

Trippin' balls is like warfare or hiking around in the woods....a buddy is always a good idea, they could very well save your life.

You sexy fucking bitch. Since you've come back into my life the sun has started shining again, I can't stop singing Downeaster Alexa, and I've started shaving my legs again. Everything just seems...worth it.

I would like to hear more specifics about your experience there. I am sure I am not the only one. It's an interesting topic, work it.

I don't know if I'm ready to be hogtied in the desert or to go on a cosmic journey, but I'm glad I know whom to ask for advice.

Sure. A lot of people describe the experience as going "up," but if you can associate a direction with a feeling, mine felt like it was going down. Not like a bad or negative place, but just that I was really drawn inward and I felt kind of like I was exploring in my own mind. I don't believe in astral projection or reaching other dimensions or anything like that, so I enjoyed the visions but also felt aware that they were just the result of neurochemicals firing in my brain. The sensation was much stronger with my eyes closed, and I mostly wanted to lay down and be still, but other people were dancing and moving around.

I should mention that I was also really tired. The ceremony didn't start until probably 11 and lasted all night, which I wasn't expecting - I'd woken up early that morning and done a lot during the day. Once I felt the effects, though, it made my brain feel much more awake. Sounds seem like they're coming from all directions, so as underwhelmed as I was with the shaman and ceremony part, it was awesome when he played eerie-sounding instruments and some of the music was perfect. They would also intermittently light and burn resin, which smelled nice and provided some nice sensory experiences. I remember thinking the lighter looked like a little wall of fire because of the distorted vision - it was cool. We were inside. I think being outside would be better, weather permitting.

The effects lasted a few hours but only really peaked for 1-2 hours. During that time, I did feel like I had a bit of an existential journey, and I felt very in touch with thoughts about people that I've loved and lost and assorted life experiences, but no flashbacks or anything like that. No really dark thoughts, no epiphanies. I suppose I am at peace with life and the universe and overall very content, so I didn't really feel like I had anything to work through. Other people shared their experiences the next morning and it sounds a lot more emotional to some people. Some were weeping and moaning during the ceremony, but a lot of the really intense stuff felt a little performative. Like I said, though, seems to be different more everyone.

It tasted better than I thought it would. Not great, but not gross.

Heard of it, haven't considered it, but it should kill any parasites ;).

I don't think my body could handle it.

"The psychedelic effects of ayahuasca include visual and auditory stimulation, the mixing of sensory modalities, and psychological introspection that may lead to great elation, fear, or illumination. Its purgative properties are important (known as la purga or "the purge"). The intense vomiting and occasional diarrhea it induces can clear the body of worms and other tropical parasites,[21] and harmala alkaloids themselves have been shown to be anthelmintic.[22] Thus, this action is twofold; a direct action on the parasites by these harmala alkaloids (particularly harmine in ayahuasca) works to kill the parasites, and parasites are expelled through the increased intestinal motility that is caused by these alkaloids."

i've never heard of it, and it sounds interesting. i don't think i would enjoy a drum circle tripping. had you been drinking before? were you on any other medications? i just went looking around into it online, and one place recommends you be off certain medications, like MAOI's for 30 days, before doing it. something about how the chemical reacts in the brain and it's effects on similar receptors. i don't know, and now i've lost the article. i tried acid as a kid and wouldn't do it today. i've got a sensitive stomach, and most hallucinogens don't go well with that. there'd be puking. that's just nasty.

DMT is fascinating. I've never had the balls to do hallucinogenic drugs, but if I ever do, it will be DMT. I would love to see the elves and the goddess, and all of the other achetypes that seem to exist in the human subconcious. If I weren't a generally law abiding individaul I would go full on psychonaut.

I actually looked into growing grass for ayahuasca not too long ago. It looks like normal lawn grass, so very low risk. My SO thinks thinks I should look into joining one of the churches that can legally use it ceremoniously first, so I haven't venutreed into actually purchasing the stuff yet.

Studies in brazil show it could be highly useful for people with depression and PTSD.

The drum circle is as if not more important than the drugs.

Historically, music generally, and percussive performance specifically was and remains integral to ritual ceremony and spiritual practice among early and indigenous peoples and their descendants, where it is often used to induce the non ordinary state of consciousness (NOSC) believed by participants to be a requisite for communication with spiritual energies and entities.

While there is no scientific evidence for existence of such energy or entities, and thereby nor the human capacity to communicate with them, the findings of some contemporary research suggests that listening to rhythmic sounds, especially percussion, can induce the subjective experience of a non ordinary states of consciousness (NOSC), with correlating electroencephalogram (EEG) profiles comparable to those associated with some forms of meditation, while also increasing the susceptibility to hypnosis. Specifically, some investigations show that the electroencephalogram (EEG) readings attained while a subject is meditating are comparable to those taken while he or she is listening to binaural beats, characterized by increased activity in the Alpha and Theta bands.

The pasta shaped like ears is called orecchiette Fata.
