Veronica Lake

When my youngest was born, she had, what we felt at the time, an unfortuate cowlick at the hairline. As her hair grow out it naturally did the Veronica Lake thing so I often think of Veronica Lake when I see her. Her hair cut the last couple of years doesn't really emphasize it like it used to when it was naturally long.

Lately I have been thinking of her. So I looked her up and was surprised when I found she has a very sad life. She was one of the most popular actresses in the 40's, but her star fell suddenly. She died penniless and forgotten.

My father had a relationship with her daughter, after him & my mum divorced. I'm still friends with a few of her kids (i.e. Lake's grandchildren).

I read a great book about her by Jeff Lenburg (I think) called Peekaboo. Yes, a very sad story. She was lovely indeed.
