How must you try to devalue my working in my cousin's and her spouse's employment agency part-time, reading resumes, giving my honest and open opinion?

OK, let's talk public education, starting with K-12. What we have in the US is essentially two systems, as a practical matter: suburban public school systems that can be very good to excellent, and rural/inner city school systems that are largely mediocre to very bad. Many people attribute the difference to the level of concentrated poverty, and I think they're right.

There are those who, as usual, like to take any issue and make it about race or about a particular political party. These kinds of people probably went to rural or urban school systems.

Consider this: the vast majority of governors in the US are Republicans, with Republican legislatures. It is at the state level that 90%+ of education policy and funding is provided and developed, not federal. If you want to talk federal to have an argument, the most sweeping federal intrusion into local public education was No Child Left Behind which was, you guessed it, a Bush initiative. And, as it stands with the Republicans controlling Congress, they could eliminate it, or Title I that provides food moneys and extra resources for the poorest schools, or the Department of Education for that matter, if Congress wanted to.

But it doesn't, because poverty is not an African American issue. The vast majority of poor are white and rural in absolute terms.

So when the claim is made that Democrats ran US education into the ground, where is the factual basis for that? Democrats for many years have been concerned about poverty, education, teachers, children's health, and I'd be interested in hearing about the great attention that the Republicans have devoted to any of these issues over the past 30 years.

For them, it's one core thing: vouchers. Vouchers are the silver bullets for education, according to conservative think thanks. Competition, right? The problem is that it is not about competition; it's about transferring taxpayer money to religious private schools. There's nothing that stops a private school from being formed as an option, and some of them can be quite good, but general taxpayer money is where the grab happens and why it's so bad.
