Interestingly, I checked the crime statistics for his neighborhood in DC and its one of the safer neighborhoods in the city.

However, there were a series of armed robberies over the past few months. At least three cases in the past two months of a group of young males robbing people at gunpoint. So, its plausible that it was a robbery.

On the other hand, Seth's wallet and valuables were not touched and he was shot in the back.
