Does anyone still appreciate the writings of H.G.Wells? I loved "War of the Worlds", but there are so many other great stories H.G Wells wrote that inspired me. I remember reading "The Invisible Man", "The Time Machine", and "The Island of Doctor Moreau".

He has always been one of y favorites too, although I never read "The Invisible Man." I thought the movie of "War of the Worlds" made in the Fifties was better than the more recent one and followed the book more closely.

They over hyped Tom Cruise in that movie. I thought he was better as an actor in "The last samurai" personally. Hell, even his performance in Top Gun was better. I'm totally with you on the 50's movie. I just wish I had the original broadcast Orson Welles did on "War of the Worlds". That would be something to hear. YouTube here I come!

I'm not a great Tom Cruise fan but his performance in Tropic Thunder was excellent.

Original topic - Wells wrote a lot of non-SF too, stuff like "The History of Mr. Polly". I wonder if he expected the SF to be what he was remembered for?

Ah.
"Little dog; eating my bicycle tyre" (Mr Polly.)
