God knows I try to appreciate the books Ross MacDonald published. He hadda PhD in literature and a glorious reputation, but his writing style is like eating a picture of a pizza or trying to drink a picture of wine. I cant find any real errors in his prose, for me it simply has no flavor or texture or aroma. Its jazz. Sound and fury that signifies nothing.

I don't get jazz, either. Its noise. Unless youre gay most modern art masterworks seem like noise. Almost every LIT story I've read is a similar noise. There's nothing to it.

lol. But music is noise. Organised noise. Jazz can be immensely satisfying.

I define NOISE different. In the radio sciences 'noise' is what you see/hear that makes no sense, its static and such (snow) that isn't sound or picture. In statistics its results with no significance.

Jazz may be bliss but I don't get it, the same as when I look at guys, I don't get their sex appeal.

I listen to everything from Led Zeppelin to Obituary. Guess I fall in that "gay" category 'cause I love my music played loud as fuck:

<has sex appeal to some guys. The feeling isn't mutual now that those days are behind me...hahađź‘ đź‘ đź‘ Kant

What's ypur question?

Is your point concerning the author or jazz music?

I'm a fan of Erest Hemingway. Hemingway can describe how to peel a lime and I can smell it. Try: from Moveable Feast--A Good Clean Cafe on Place St. Michael: https://books.google.com/books?id=j...ge&q=a clean cafe on place st michael&f=false

Like authors, jazz has so many styles, artist, etc. Certainly not for everyone, but as a suggestion, try the various jazz threads

JBJ is our pet troll. If he doesn't like it, no one should. He also starts these threads as a "hey, look at me" thing. He reads a lot, writes a little and expects everyone to believe he knows everything there is about writing. As far as he is concerned, if Chandler didn't write it, it is crap.

Now wait for it, the lame comeback will be here shortly.

My point is I dislike Ross MacDonald and jazz but cant justify the dislike. They simply do nothing for me.

Tex is the subject of my newest story I call CHILL OUT TENDER SNOWFLAKE. Its a tale about an untalented LIT hack who cant take the heat from readers with good taste.

If I can only take one book with me to hell, it'll be IBERIA by James Michener.

Good Book

I like IBERIA as well

Why not just find what you like and forget the rest?

Jack London's "A Piece of Steak"

Paul Desmond's "When Joanna Loved Me"

Or the poetry of Richard Brautigan: "Gee, You're So Beautiful, its Starting to Rain"

This thread inspired me to write, WHEN TEX CHANGES FROM BOBBYSOX TO STOCKINGS, AND TRADES ALL HIS SPORTS TOYS FOR BOYS. The Miss Fortune character is played by PILOT.
