Justice League: The New Wave (OOC - Interest Check)

We can be!

If you're new to Lit, then welcome!

What sort of character concept did you have in mind?

Thanks chas! I'll post a few more to set me up for what's to come depending on my schedule.

No rush no worries no hurries.

Even if you don't get all the stuff out before the actual in-game event goes live, I always love flashbacks, just to remember to timestamp your posts so people know they're happening in a different tineframe.

Everyone: the way I see this thread, it's like a team book in a shared comics universe like proper DC, and all or some of the team are going to have solo adventures in their own books that tie in with the same universe.

So if you guys want to post your solo-book adventures during or between the team events, that can only enrich the experience. Especially if you guys have team-ups with each other in the meantime.

Just do your best to not contradict stuff we already established, that's all.

Are you guys missing any key characters you want. I know you guys have your superman, Wonder Woman, etc figured out.

My wish-list is pretty much checked off, the rest is just gravy. Varshanka might want to see someone specific, but I'm good.

Our roster is pretty diverse, but if you have a notion you wanna explore we can hash it out?

So we're doing all those heroes that were kids during like classic justice League. Nightingale and all that.

Hmm, I might do a blue beetle style character or maybe a static shock kind of character

Out of those 2 Arch types I would probably recommend a first gen Blue beetle. We really don't have a tech savy/ Inventor/ Scientist on the team.

Technically they're both very tech savvy. Blue beetle in pretty much every version of him has kept a great love for science while static shock has a similar like love and the weird ability to talk to machines and all those weird powers he has because comics

We have an OC named G.R.I.D. who is technopathic and has an enhanced intellect, and an NPC of Natasha Irons.

So that covers our tech angle, but we don't need to have a quota on that.

As much as I love Ted, Dan, and Jaime, and I do, I would really like to hear more of your angle on Static, because I'm hoping to involve Dakota City in a future storyline.

What were you thinking with Virgil?

Well if we are going prior new 52 Virgil is still hopping around with Hardware in Dakota more than likely still fighting off the meta-human gangs and researching his cure for the quantum juice that made a large chunk of meta humans in Dakota.
Hed be about 20ish give or take a year or two based on the ages of Aqualad and Damien Wayne.

If we are going with the new 52 static he's moved to New York City due to some traumatic event that was never given out and is working for star labs. He supposedly regularly helped out heroes with his connections to star lab's resources. He is also like 17 in the new 52 for some reason. He's still fighting crime but he doesn't focus on street level crime but rather exclusively on big bad bad guys (aka most often powered people)

Personally I'd like some sort of hybrid character of the 2 versions. I like the mindset of new 52 static shock. The idea that he can't stop every mugging but he has to stop every bad guy with the real potential to hurt a lot of people. But I like the esthetic and flow of the smaller city Virgil lives in rather than the big apple. I also like the idea that he is still obsessed with finding a way to cure the bang babies.
I also really like the style that was approached at least in the comic books on how Virgil approaches all the superhero teams. Where he really admires a lot of the heroes and would love to join any number of the teams out there but he is so independent and generally struggles with the whole team thing that it creates this great inner and outer conflict for him.

This is our own continuity, our own 52, so you're not strictly beholden to any prior version and are free to hybridize your own elements with preexisting ones.

I'm intrigued by your pitch!

Work up a profile from the blank version provided by Legend at the beginning of the OOC thread, and when you have that up the mods can troubleshoot it if need be. Once that's done, we'll let you know when you're officially good to post in the IC.

I strongly encourage you to read through both the OOC and the IC so far so you're more familiar with what's gone down.

Just from a geographical standpoint, I'm putting Dakota City right near Detroit, Michigan. Don't worry about that putting you far away from Metropolis, we'll have that angle covered.

Alter Ego -
Virgil Ovid Hawkins

Alias -

Virgil is a thin 5'7" African American. He has semi-long jet black hair kept in well cared for dreadlocks often tied back to keep them out of his face. His dark brown eyes are always full of humor. His slender frame and sharp features compliment each other giving him a rugged look altogether. He is commonly seen wearing shades of blue with black both while fighting crime and when he's off the clock. He does not have an intimidating outward appearance which gives the impression that he'll be an easy fight.

Personality -
Virgil has the mindset of a typical teenage male, but outside the hormones and foolish choices he has a very keen scientific mind. He will often find the scientific or more thought out way to defeat an enemy rather than fight them with brute force. He may come off at times as cocky and overconfident and his witty personality is one of his most notable things about him, he is kindhearted and battles with a sense of a need to save everyone. He is also an enormous geek, known to fanboy over fellow superheroes (especially African american ones like John Stewart and Black Lightning), comic books, and video games.

Gear (optional) -
Virgil's most notable and iconic piece of equipment is his collapsible metal disk he uses to fly around and uses as a makeshift weapon. The disk was later augmented and redesigned by his good friend Hardware to include a detachable disk that served as a communicator, holographic projector and a tool for offensive and defensive fighting. He also uses a Bo-Staff for close quarters fighting and carries around several small tracking devices that send out minuscule electromagnetic bursts that Virgil can track.
LIST:
-Collapsible flying disk
-Detachable communicator and discus
-Bo-Staff
-Tracking devices

Power/ability -
Static has the metahuman ability to project, channel, generate, manipulate, and absorb raw electromagnetic energy primarily in the form of electricity.
His abilities include:
-Creation of directed lightning bolts from his hands
-Electromagnetic Shields/Repulsion Shields
-Can lift metal objects sometimes weighing several tons
-Magnetize and demagnetize objects
-Control nearby electronic devices
-Charge objects with electricity to cause them to explode
-Reverse the polarity of nearly any object
-Bend electrons to his will
-"Static Cling" or stick people/things to surfaces
-Charge and levitate non-metal objects but it is unreliable
-Has some ability to resist telepathic assaults
-Heals when absorbing electricity/heals faster than normal

Weakness -
Weaknesses Include:
-His powers can be countered with any insulator. His powers are effectively useless on them.
-He is incapable of electromagnetically effecting wood but can cause it to catch fire.
-He can have his electromagnetic powers drained by outside sources that feed on electricity.
-Getting soaked in water causes his powers to short out, meaning that he cannot use them until he drains some electricity to kick start his system. Getting soaked with water can also be immensely painful for him if he is not careful.
-Believes he should save everyone, going to extreme lengths to do so.

Bio -
Virgil Hawkins was just an average teenager, attending Ernest Hemingway High School, with a flove for comic books and role-playing board games. His only problem was being ridiculed and bullied, mainly by his rival Francis Stone, also known as Biz-Money-B, later becoming Hotstreak. After taking a beating from him, Larry Wade, a close friend, asks him to meet him at Paris Island, the most dangerous section of Dakota. Once there, Larry hands Virgil a gun in order to pay back Francis from earlier. But, he couldn't bring himself to do it, and with that, he tosses the gun into the water. There was one problem. Virgil was present at the Big Bang, a large brawl between rival gangs, but at the same time, the police arrived and unleashed a tear gas, spiked with chemicals to track any gang members that tried to slip away. Things backfired, and the gas proved harmful. Out of over 500 gang members, only 10% of the people exposed to the gas survived, either mutating into monstrous creatures or gaining superhuman powers and abilities, and leaving the rest on their deathbed. When Virgil was exposed to the gas, he gained electromagnetic powers and unwillingly dismantles police robots with his powers before making his escape from Paris Island. Later he decides to become a superhero, naming himself Static.

During his time as static he learns that many of these new metahumans wish nothing more than to return back to normal and be regular old boring humans again. This leads to his research into the creation of a cure that would reverse the mutations caused by the Big Bang. Virgil as Static continued to take down the "Bang Babies" that went on crime sprees, which many did. He formed alliances with heroes such as Dick Grayson, Hardware, the Teen Titans, and members of the Justice League. Though his attempts at joining the teen titans and justice league both ended in him choosing to quit the teams based on differing views on how heroes should be.

Static is the sworn enemy of various gangs and crime syndicates but most of his enemies come from the metahumans he tries to save. Often getting tracked down and attacked out of revenge by metahumans he has put away several times before.

As Virgil's genius continued to grow and become recognized he was approached by S.T.A.R. labs on the behest of his friend and fellow crime fighter, Hardware. Virgil was offered a position and a laboratory at the Dakota branch of S.T.A.R. labs where he studies and works today. He is knowledgeable in several fields of science such as: chemistry, electrical engineering, electromagnetism, physics, and his understanding of molecular structure rivals the Flash's

In recent months Virgil has seen more and more new meta-humans appearing in Dakota. Each exhibiting similar traits and powers as the Bang Baby meta-humans that already inhabited the city. These new meta-humans appeared in more and more organized group, causing chaos and taking the city by storm.

Man, you guys always crank these out so quick, it takes me days!

Okay, not bad, not bad, I dig it.

I think 100 might be a little high based on what I understand of Static's max output--

--but I suppose if he were being supercharged with phenomenal cosmic power like they did to Damage at the end of "Zero Hour," I think I could see him hitting 100.

Does he work at S.T.A.R.Labs' Dakota branch, or did you move him after all?

Varshanka, do you have any notes?

If you want I can lower it. Just in the comics we've seen Virgil absorb and redirect cities worth of power all at once.

And my fault I'll write in that he's at the Dakota branch

No, you're good, I was just sort of thinking out loud.

And I was just clarifying where he was at geographically for reasons, I appreciate the specificity.

Let's give GM Var a chance to offer constructives, but so far I'm on board.

If you don't mind my asking, what caught your interest about this particular neck of the forum?

Long story short I came across this while glancing over a big list of forum roleplay locations. Wanted to avoid the tight nit huge groups kept to smaller forums. Eventually found this. Odd site. Good ideas.
