Anybody here dreamed of characters as you are writing them?

It's happened to me twice now. It puts a strange layer of "reality" over a fictional world, that's for sure.

All the time. Not the silly sex stories, but my more serious stuff. Some of those dreams led to scenes and chapters in my novels.

I don't recall that happening. I've had a couple dreams that led to stories, but I rarely remembering dreaming of people I know either. It's extremely rare for me.

Some of my stories started from a situation or scene in a dream I've had. Usually early in the morning, when I can stay awake long enough to think about it and remember, often by playing the dream over in my head a few times as I lay in bed. Often I'll add it to it as I lay there, then keep going over again and again so as not to loose it.

The only person I remember consistently in my dreams is my father, who only started appearing after he died. Other than him there's been a woman who I sometimes vaguely remember after awakening and I chose to think that she's my wife.

On the other hand there's been several clearly remembered dreams when one of the cats we have will appear in a dream, can speak and is as big as a large tiger. The dog never shows up.

I've tried working the big cat that talks into a story, but it never gels into anything worth continuing.

Other than that "early in the morning is usually sometime around 10:00 a.m., for me, this is where most of my stories come from to. They come as story ideas, though, not out of real people or events. I do occasionally dream real people (did last night). I don't remember dreaming a fictional character ever.

Not with characters I'm already writing, but I have one or two that started out as dreams.
