I was watching one of the real cop shows a few years back before I turned the TV off. I think it was 'The First 48', but I'm not sure. They were in one of the deep ghettos, Memphis, Atlanta, Birmingham ... can't remember which one.

Heavyset black girl, 20s, 300 pounds maybe. Blind. Hooking because she couldn't do anything else. One or two room flat, sparse, little furniture. Her husband (boyfriend, can't remember) who was also her pimp had just been shot and killed in front of her. Being blind, she had no idea who did it. While the detectives were talking to her trying to get information, she could barely talk. She just sat swaying, wailing "I'm sad" over and over again. She had nothing left. No family. No one to help her. No income.

Though not in anywhere near a similar situation to any degree, I often find myself overwhelmed by some minor problem, doing the same kind of swaying and wailing. Something that most people would brush off easily can overtake me to the point I become dysfunctional for hours, sometimes days. I sit, do nothing. Sometimes just shake/tremble. Not because I don't want to. Because I can't.
