The Red Sox honored the 1986 World series team last night. Why? I have no idea, they were the perpetrators of one of the biggest chokes in World series history.

The most infamous moment was Bill Buckner letting a ground ball roll between his legs for the winning run in game six.

In the other games Buckner was pulled for defensive purposes late in the games. The manager left him on the field for this one so he could celebrate:rolleyes:

What if he had pulled him as he always had used to be asked quite a bit.

Those things always get me thinking of other 'what if' moments.

What if Jim Rice-one of the Gold Dust Twins of 1975 with Fred Lynn-had never broken his wrist and been able to play in the 1975 world series, a series the Sox lost in seven games?

What if the (then) Baltimore Colts had never traded John Elway to the Broncos after drafting him in 1983?

I love sports. A lot. But I've never once lost one minute of sleepin' worrying about the way things might have been. Big wheel keep on turning, Proud Mary keep on burning.

One player is meaningless. Elway eventually did well because he was with a team that was right for him and they all worked well together.
Wanna see what happens when a team keeps a player that aint for them, look at Washington. Or pretty much any Browns team.

What if that idiot Favre hadn't thrown that pass over the middle when all the vikings needed was a fg to win the nfc against the Saints.
I hope he falls out out of his tree stand.

Dude has no clue what year it is and I'm sorta doubtful he knows his own name anymore so I don't think falling out of a tree stand will do much more damage.

Or...what if Favre never threw that stupid sideline pass to start OT against the Giants in the NFC championship game? That one is a big what if for Patriots fans:eek:

For a great hall of fame QB there are a lot of what ifs with Favre.

What if Tony Romo doesn't mishandle the snap on that field goal attempt in his first play off game. Seems like that set the tone for his post season career.

It's because he was a gunslinger. Those kind of QB's always have a ton of INT's and shitty passes. Favre was just with a good couple teams (don't count the Jets) and was around long enough for his stats to look really good. Not to say he wasn't a great QB because he was but he did make some seriously dumb passes.

Romo gets a lot of shit but it's rarely his fault. Plus I always have a hard time blaming a QB for fucking up a kick no matter what his job is.
He's a great fantasy player and in the end that's all that matters.

Agreed, but it with Favre his mistakes came at the absolute worst times. If I remember the Vikings pass, they were in FG range and all he had to do was slide, he didn't even need to throw.

Tony Romo is another gunslinger who puts up great regular season numbers then throws that one crazy pass to many.

Drew Bledsoe was another in that vein, not a scrambler, but a prolific passer, but you could count on him always throwing that back breaking interception.

Well in all fairness, the vikes/saints championship game was the bounty hunter saints.
They beat the living fuck out of him all day and tried to break his leg.
At least I have those memories.

Speaking of the Vikings what if that kid this year didn't miss that chip shot Field goal against seattle?

Or for that matter Stephen Gostkowski of the Pats not missing his first extra point in eight seasons in a game the patriots would have tied with 12 seconds left had he made it?

Or Billy Cundiff(?) shanking one for the Ravens against the Pats in the AFC title game

and the most infamous Scott Norwood missing in the Superbowl against the Giants, the only one of four SB's they had a chance in.

Again, in fairness to favre, he is from mississippi and went to college there.
I'm not even sure if slavery is still legal there but I'm pretty sure their list of Nobel prize winners is fairly limited.
I like Romo. It's true he throws the heartbreaker, but the more people hate on him, the more I'm liking him.

That kid missed like 4 pat's last year too.
A week or two before the seattle screw up, he had missed a pat, then had a real shitty kick off which a player ran back for a td.
The kid had a clear shot at tackling him and just stood there and watched him walts past.
I'm no fan of the kid.

Then Elway would have been a Yankee.

I think Thompson and McMahon are the only ones I really can't like. The others I dig at least a little bit. Even Daly could be fun to watch sometimes.

I'm with you, but will add that for me the Yankees rate above the Jets, sorriest excuse for a sports franchise there is.

No way!

The Falcons lay claim to 50 years of mediocrity, poor management, horrible coaching, terrible drafts, and a 7-12 record in the playoffs.

Our current offensive coordinator is none other than Kyle Shanahan. Need I say any more?

At least the Jets won a Super Bowl.

Glad to see you engaged in more masculine pursuits.
Usually you only hang out with the Blurt gurrrls.

Keep it up! *pats head*
