Medical procedures can only make superficial changes to the body. There is no way for a biological male to become a biological female, or the other way around. But I agree it must be terrible to feel you were born the wrong sex. I feel sorry for these individuals.

Colorado adopted a “transgender nondiscrimination” bill in 2008 that makes it illegal to deny a person access to public accommodations, including restrooms and locker rooms, based on gender identity or the “perception” of gender identity. One consequence of the law is a ruling last month forcing authorities to permit six-year-old Coy Mathis – a boy who say he thinks he’s a girl – to use the girls bathroom at his elementary school.

Brilliant. So according to what you've posted we've been through 2 presidential elections and all local and state elections and no one made a peep about this and there have been no problems. People have been using the bathrooms right along side transgender people for the better part of 8 years (legally) and there have been no problems at all. Gosh, what could have possibly made this an issue?

ALL of the big public restroom areas could easily employ attendents and have working cctv. Many public buildings now have single facility units, anyone can use them, just as they would a bathroom on a private home. do away with urinals, have doors that ensure privacy, and there's no issue.

I have no doubt there is a genetic component involved, not just with transgenderism, but with homosexuality. That does not mean it's possible for a biological male to become a biological female, or the reverse. I see no way, for example, for Bruce Jenner, now known as Caitlyn Jenner, to ever become a biological woman. To be blunt about it, he can fake it, but he can't make it.

the historical facts of an individual's birth cannot be changed, but medical procedures can change the body to match the gender a person is, later in life. and thank goodness for that. I can't begin to imagine the extent of fuckupedness that must occur to a transexual's mental health if forced to live with the disparity IF they hate each day in the mis-gendered body.

The changes are superficial.

The hormones and brain chemistry need continued injections, the surgery is constantly trying to heal, the plumbing doesn't work, the structure of the brain, muscles, skeleton, etc. don't change, it's like carving a strawberry into the shape of a radish and dipping it in radish juice...

It's still a strawberry.

Now in the future, I'm sure science will allow the brain structure, bone structure, etc. even the chromosomes to be changed, but this is 2016 not 2216.

Hell it might be possible in only a few decades, who knows.

I myself will opt for some badass talons, horns, scales, blades, teeth, second eye-lids, reinforced bones and joints, second heart, third lung, etc.

Maybe the ability to spit either an acid, base, or enzyme on my enemies... also I'd make my dick 4 times bigger than a horses! And I'd be 9 feet tall! 750 pounds of biologically grown self-repairing nano-fiber muscle!

There's plenty of familiy bathrooms and areas designated for mothers to breastfeed in private if they want to. I don't recall any uproar when those came into being.

It's not a safety issue at all except in the interest of keeping transgendered folks safer.
