Simon...as others have said those are great pics. I went back and read most all of the posts on bees. This is a great time of year to think about getting a hive going...it is something a few of my neighbors do and we have talked about from time to time. Too many projects already at the moment though.

Ok so here I am kayaking one day this past weekend. In this shot, my boat is facing upstream and I am getting ready to turn back downstream and run the next drop. Or maybe I will run it backwards. ;)

That looks like a beautiful way to spend a day, Jason! Due to my fear of 'oh my god I can't see the bottom' I will find a nice rock on the bank and enjoy from there ;):rose:

Well just so you'll know, usually you can see the bottom on this river and all the rocks too. ;)

Those first eggs are so freakin' exciting!!! :D And those are beautiful.

I was gifted three yellow chicks and a guinea keat a couple weeks ago. It's becoming clear that the yellow chicks are in fact meat birds, and not layers. So I'm trying to not get too attached ;) The keat is a riot, though! The rest of the hens watch his shenanigans with WTF? expressions on their faces.

Felicity - is that a guinea hen that you have? with the beautiful black and white feathers? Long ago now, I lived on some acreage and we had some guinea hens (we had a bunch of laying chickens too) but those guineas made such a racket - I grew to love the noise they made - it was so distinctive - better than any alarm service - lol

Oh!! We had Guinea fowl when I lived in Ghana! They do indeed make a racket!!

Indeed, though not sure of sex yet. Or color. They come in many different ones now, and the lady who gave them to me had no details. Her hubs brought them home one day and though she might like to raise them, and they proved too much for her.

Right now, the keat still has its chipmunk stripes!

When I'm out riding my horse, we sometimes pass a farm that has a little flock of them, and the first time the horse heard them he didn't know what to think! He planted his feet and stared, and if a horse's jaw could drop... ;)

I'm hoping this little guy will be ok being the only one. I went looking for a few more so he'd have company, but it's already getting late in the year to find local chicks. So we'll see how it plays out. :heart:

Blacksmiths that make horse shoes are called farriers.
This man is doing a different kind of smithing, unrelated to horses and horse shoes... as important as that work is. :heart:

Accurate. Apologies, on my teeny screen that looked like a shoe in his tongs. Cold shoeing is more prevalent in this area, it's pretty rare to see a farrier using heat.

In my youth I apprenticed for a year with a female farrier, but focused on the hoof trimming itself. Was an amazing experience with an equally amazing woman!

May I ask what he is smithing?:rose:
