How come you speak German, btw? I did it to A-level, back when you had to read German literature and see plays and films in German, although I didn't come out of that with a love of Brecht, I must say!

this lovely perceptive and tender post of Simon's about his woman's emotionally exhausted return after a period apart. "Husband and wife sex for real", he says, and it inspired me to think further about the variety of sex there can be in a long-term monogamous relationship.

First, a couple which don't appeal:

Maintenance - When one person fucks simply to satisfy the other's desire, even though they don't really want to. Much better to defer, I think, and both enjoy it.

To 'get' something - What?! Isn't there a rather specific name for that sort of thing? I have absolutely no issue with uncoerced sex work in any way. But in a relationship? Noooo...

These I like though:

Sleepy - aka 'morning wood'. Waking to his hand gently caressing me, feeling his hardness at my back. Or, alternatively, snaking my arm over his hip and holding him in my hand, feeling him grow or feeling him already very much awake. And then the languid pleasure of relaxed, sleepy fucking. I'm not sure we deliberately mix it up, but variety is good in a long relationship, I reckon. And I suppose sometimes a fuck falls into multiple categories, or has to be in one because of, say, time constraints. For example, yesterday morning we'd both evidently woken up mindful of the fact that we each had piles of work to get through, but that we'd be out having dinner with friends last night, and probably consequentially tired today rolleyes:) then out again tomorrow. So sleepy plus (fairly) quickie was the order of the day!
