Why is it so difficult for willing editors to find authors?

I've posted a couple of times offering to do editing work but had no response, or been approached by someone who's totally out of my writing comfort zone (eg as much as I respect gay guys, I wouldn't edit a gay story). I once got approached by a member who wanted a long fetish story translated into colloquial French in 3 days for a book she was writing! For free and absolutely nothing to do with Literotica. Hell, I can conjugate many French verbs till the cows come home, but school never taught me how to translate fetish jargon.

Try posting your availability and your categories to the "Available to edit ~~ April 2016" (or May, or June...) thread. That's what it's there for. Also, make sure you have PM enabled so that people can reach you.

I have had exactly the opposite problem.
Over the last two weeks I have sent notes to over a dozen editors via the 'find an editor' link on the 'stories' front page and had not one single reply.
NOT EVEN A POLITE NO THANKS!!
I ended up just publishing and will no doubt be damned!
Where are all you editors?

P.S.
If you are looking for something to edit, mail me.

Be sure to turn on Private Messages.
* To switch on your Private Messages, go to User CP (top left of this page), click on Edit Options (in the left hand column), and then tick Enable Private Messaging in the second box down. Make sure that the box titled Receive Private Messages only from Buddies and Moderators is NOT ticked. Finally, click Save Changes at the bottom of that page.

I started out (not long ago) posting without an editor because the site's link didn't work. I did have a few problems pointed out to me in the public comments. It you really need eternal damnation then public comments are a good place to get it.

There are editors looking for something to edit -- just read the posts on this thread -- but the site's "find an editor" link usually doesn't work.

Post your request here and/or contact the editors volunteering in the "Available to Edit" sticky thread. Either way you should make contact via PM, which means that you and the editor must both have PM enable to receive messages from everyone.

The site's broken system seems to be the source of a lot of misunderstanding. On the other hand I don't think that the routes to an editor (or for an editor to an author) in this forum could be any more obvious than they are.

When you request an editor you at least need to give the category you want to post in and the size of the story -- in words, not pages. You should mention any time constraints that you have in mind. A description of the story and even a short (three paragraphs or less) sample might help.

And a last note, there probably aren't many volunteer editors who want to spend their time on rudimentary English. Even if your story turns out to be a mess, your communications here should probably be pretty well-worded. Think of your request as a job application.

The editor link doesn't work very well to start with. When you use it, it sends an email to the editor with a request for a direct reply and that causes me a problem as I will only give my email to those writers whose stories I agree to take. Before they get my email, I need to satisfy myself that the story doesn't have content I won't edit, a word count and what time scale is required. I do this via the PM system as it is a means of contact without letting my email out.

If the writers PM is turned off or not allowing contacts inward then tough, there won't be any response from me. I do always respond to PM's sent to me and usually within 24 hours (world time differences)

Thanks to Lynn, Notwise and Todger65.
Thanks Lynn. Private messaging is now switched on.
Thanks Notwise. great advice and I will try and include all that in my 'CV'.
Thanks Todger65. Now I know why I was beginning to think editors are just downright rude. I was obviously wrong to think that.
I have taken all your advice and am hopefully now in a position to find an editor or two willing to edit either my Real Life chronicles or my Fantasy Fiction.
Anyone interested in editing for me, please read my work to date listed on my profile and contact me if it appeals to you. There are many RL episodes from my 2 years+ servitude to recount and more chapters of my fiction. I am currently working on both.
Thanks again to you all.
Slave Georgina.

Interesting read. I've had the exact opposite; paid gigs that don't reply. Yep, even after we've established a good working relationship. Just the nature of the beast I suppose.

I think what its going to eventually come down to is actually sitting down with the editor face to face and establishing that working relationship. Its easier to explain in person, and "pitch" the editor. But we all lose interest in things after time.

It took me 9 full years to discover that all LIT writers make no errors, and all deserve praise and applause.

I trust your need for that was what you finally decided to become a Lit. author. :D
