It must be the best time for the average US citizen to hibernate, as that relentless battle to elect a new Leader is fought. Meanwhile, some states are in a state about how best to amuse their legislatures. Utah seems to have focussed in 'smut' (do not ask me to define that).

Utah...a bunch of Mormons get their panties in a wad. These are the guys that believed in multiple wives until the Federal government said no. Then they whined a lot. Some still practice Polygamy. To me that's a delightful side of pornography and pure smut.

Anyone remember old Senator Everett Dirksen? He had three rules of politics:

1. Get elected.
2. Stay elected.
3. Don't get mad; get even.

Why should anyone in office ever quit? Even after being caught screwing the pooch or whatever, it can be a lifetime gig, whether gerrymandered or not. If (dog forbid) you lose or encounter term limits, there's always lobbying.

ObTopic: What we have here is classic psychological projection, assigning one's own sins and weaknesses to someone else. The anti-gay closet queen; the family values proponent victimizing the young and helpless; the anti-drug hardliner busy abusing multiple substances. The jerkoff pr0n warrior.

Of course, if you want the hottest gig in town, work with a committee investigating the deleterious effects of pr0n consumption. You must view vast quantities to get a handle on the situation. Crank up xHamster -- it's for the public good.

Smoke Screen

When this sort of thing comes up in election years, it seems to come from people who generate buzz for these subjects so as to distract voters from the real issues. I'd put it in the same category of who's supposed to be using whose bathrooms, gay marriage (in previous years), or teaching evolution in the public schools.

As soon as the election is over, in most cases, the issue suddenly becomes moot, and the publicity vanishes. Gay marriage was a notable exception, but the reason for that is that it was a movement that started with Stonewall and kept growing, and was sustained by the portrayal of gays in the media as normal people who wanted normal lives, resulting in a generation that was ready to embrace that change.

At least, that's how it looks to me.

My firm belief has become two simple ideals:

#1~ The politicians that are constantly telling you who to blame for your lot in life are most likely the ones with the dirtiest hands for why your share of the American Dream didn't include a McMansion or retirement at 50.

#2~ The politicians that are always pointing out who and/or what to be afraid of are the very ones we should be the MOST scared of.

Distraction is the simplest way for them to keep the voters from figuring out those facts.
