Funny how {JHWH} hit Pompeii and Herculaneum but missed the rest of the Graeco-Roman world. Some Neapolitan brothels reportedly date back to ca. 200 BCE. {JHWH} has been an equally bad shot lately. Katrina missed the decadent French Quarter. Loma Prieta missed the Broadway strip clubs and gay Castro Street. The last major L.A. quake+fire hit black Watts, not hip West Hollyweird. Seem like {JHWH} mostly hates poor people.

I prefer Herculaneum and Paestum but Pompeii has its points of interest. And Vesuvio keeps smoking. Hint to tourists: make sure you have a round-trip ticket and can bug-out at a moment's notice. Don't buy land there.

I've not considered non-geological reasons for Pompeii's demise. Maybe skimpy blood sacrifices were offered Jupiter or Mars or Poseidon. Maybe Odin and Vulcan and Osiris were drinking and bullshitting and Vulcan said, "Hey guys, watch this..." Maybe 100 million Chinese all jumped up and landed at the same moment, sending a jolt through Earth that triggered Vesuvio. Maybe kobolds tunneling in the Monti Lattari hit the wrong vein. Oops. Maybe a local mage was pissed at being stiffed by the town council. Right.

The irony of what I usually see in the GB never ceases to amaze me. (not talking about the OP, who's sensible about these issues).

Some of our 'libs.' are quick to become outraged by the occasional religious christian loonie who says such things (silly things about homosexuals, sex and women). And they end up painting most Christians with the same brush.

Yet when it comes to Islamic radicals, who are even worse on such matters: no, they don't exist, because Islam good and Christianity bad. And whoever brings these up is labelled "a racist'.

I understand that they're trying to defend muslim minorities who suffer world-wide discrimination, but this is starting to look a bit ridiculous.

Just one example: have a look at the manner in which I (non-e speaking immigrant) and SmoothG (black) have been trolled by the xenophobic and racist insults-spewing alts of GB progressives. I was referring to the "radical political libs." because this phenomenon baffles me : it's not supposed to happen with them. THEY are the ones who are supposed to be more flexible and to be willing to accept the good as well as the bad in the same person.

I haven't stepped inside a church since my son married in 1991. I was Episcopalian but am no longer Christian. I s'pose I'm a Deist. Generally speaking Christians are mother fuckers I don't wanna run with. And nothing pisses me off more than the SPOTTIES who demand I eat chicken and forfeit beef at work social events, Christmas dinners come to mind.

Generally speaking I didn't start out racist or homophobic but it came after too many hurtful collisions with fags and niggers. They are now my political enemies. The core orthodoxy of each group is, white, straight, males are evil.

Almost all Roman towns and cities had statues, statuettes and bas-reliefs of Priapus. He was a good luck charm, rather like a 'lucky horseshoe'. The reason so many are now missing is because Christians destroyed them, and other representations of the Roman Gods, in the centuries after Christianity became the official religion of the Roman Empire.

If anywhere needed destroying because of sinfulness - it was Rome itself. Pompeii and Herculaneum were small provincial towns. They didn't aspire to the level of debauchery acheived in Rome.

Even under the medieval Popes, Rome was still a place for sexual pleasure.

BUT - We're all going to Hell - because we are on Literotica. Just point a fundamentalist cleric of almost any religion towards Literotica and watch them foam at the mouth before condemning us to eternal damnation.
