Getting Friends and/or Family to Read Your Stories

Nope... it would be totally inconceivable to my family.

P.s. Welcome Countess. :) That makes sense, we have a lot of facets. Have fun with the writing, I'm sure you'll find what you're looking for.

I'm still writing my first story, only a handful of friends know about it and they wanted to read it as I'm writing it. My wife and sister are my bata readers and they're ok with what I'm writing. Some of the people I know would have a problem with it and they don't need to know.

"I wouldn't dare," I succinctly said above. Why not? Because many players in my stories are based on friends, family, and partner. They would surely recognize themselves in the stories. They would surely NOT be amused by their portrayals and the implications thereof. I would be cut of from them. I would die. I would rather avoid that. So no, they don't know.

I think sharing my Lit writing with real life, non-writer friends is a bit like bumping into someone you know in the back of an adult bookstore known for having gloryholes. Yeah, you both know why you're there, but it's best to just ignore it.

Looks like you have a lot of great stories. I'll get to them soon. Nothing wrong with glory holes. Just hope uncle Joe isn't there. Yet if he is he's got lots of explaining to do.

As for ours, they are real and I call each short chapter a story. Each involves a fun time in our lives. Together they were supposed to be a book but time and patience has caused me to just add them as they are, short ramblings about different times in our lives.

Many names and places have been changed. But the like minded friends I send the stories to know who they are. So far each has liked the way I wrote about them. Why not? It was from what happened.
Sadly as far as I know none followed me from other sites to Lit.

Or as we like to say here in the Good-Ol-Boy, Redneck Riviera of the deep South:

Jews don't recognize Christ as the Savior, Methodists don't recognize Jewish holidays, the Church of Christ doesn't recognize the Pope, the Catholics don't recognize immersion baptism, and the Baptists don't recognize each other at the liquor store or strip joints. ;)

Yup, theology is serious, especially in dry counties.

I'm in the fortunate situation of not having to hide what I write. My lady love knows what I do and she supports me. In fact, she's my harshest critic. :) The rest of my family knows and they keep bugging me for a share of the royalties. Too bad that million-selling smash hit has yet to materialize.

I rather keep my internet self and real self separated. Worlds colliding and all that. Same on Facebook.

Getting Friends and/or family to read your stories

I write mainstream nonfiction. I am generally proud of my Literotica work (Some of my early stuff not so much) It really depends on the friends before I decide to share this part of my life with them. My girlfriend
enjoys having me read my stories out loud to her. I provided links to three of my best stories to my best buddy at work. He really liked what he read. I also sent links to an old co-worker and fellow mainstream writer. It's not something I advertise unless I am comfortable with the person. I love the instant feedback her at Literotica.com. It's not USA Today or Library Journal but in some ways it is more satisfying.

That actually happened to me, kinda. Not the gloryhole part but I was in an adult video store, bent over the counter looking at the selection of expensive vibes when I heard someone shout my name. I turned and saw the security guard from my work (who I'd been harboring a crush on) with the biggest grin on his face. I was a very shy 19 yr old so it did not lead to anything worthy of a Lit story, unfortunately.

As for having friends and family read my stuff, um no. My writing is pretty tame but my sister-in-law refuses to read it, claiming "I'm afraid I'll picture you and my brother." I offered (threatened) to send photos to help illustrate the story. Her face turned green and she passed.
