The IIHF World U18 Championships begin in Grand Forks, N.D., next week, and the Russian team was set to fly out tomorrow. Today it was revealed that the head coach has been fired and the entire roster will be replaced because too many players tested positive for the recently banned substance Meldonium.

That's the same substance that Maria Sharapova got caught with, right?

My understanding is that that stuff is commonly prescribed in most of the former Soviet countries. It wasn't banned until the first of this year, as I recall.

When I was in the Army in Germany, it was tradition at the NCO club on the last night before someone rotated back to the States for the Merle Haggard song "Silver Wings" to be played. All the womenfolk would line up for one last dance with the lucky guy (and guys lined up when it was a woman leaving).
