MSNBC host needs just 16 seconds to destroy Scott Walker’s claim of voter fraud in Wisconsin

All In host Chris Hayes quickly debunked Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker’s boast that opponents of his state’s voter ID law should “look at the facts.”

“Alright, let’s look at the facts,” Hayes said. “There’s the fact that despite dire warnings of voter fraud, a Wisconsin federal district judge ruled that the law’s defenders — and I’m quoting — ‘could not point to a single instance of known voter impersonation occurring in Wisconsin at any time in the recent past.'”

Hayes’ quote, taken from an August 2014 ruling, took just 16 seconds to recite. The Nation’s Ari Berman noted, however, that the ruling was subsequently reversed by the US Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, despite the Wisconsin law being tougher than a voter ID law passed in Indiana.

According to Berman, the Wisconsin law could block 300,000 registered voters from taking part in next week’s state primaries — many of them students or people of color. Early voting lines have already stretched to the point of discomfort, a problem that Hayes said is expected to get worse.

I'm all for making sure people are legally allowed to vote, but this nonsense that somehow presenting ID automatically means the person coming to vote is the same person on an ID is ridiculous.

The people at polls wouldn't be able to spot a fake ID from a real one. All they would do is look at the picture and say, "Yep, that's you," then wave the person on to vote.

If Republicans were so concerned about voter fraud they wouldn't be sucking the cock of Diebold and other makers of electronic voting machines which have no verifiable paper trail and no way to verify the vote someone casts is correctly recorded. Apparently the same people who make ATMs, which record every transaction and provide a paper receipt, find it too difficult to do the same for a voting machine.

The simplest is fill in the bubble which is then scanned. It provides a verifiable paper trail in case there are issues, the person can be sure who they are voting for and the votes can be quickly tabulated via scanning.

The verifiable portion is critical. For example, if there is a small voting area which generally votes one way or the other, one can use the physical paper to verify the votes were counted correctly if they suddenly vote the opposite way.

This can also work for any area as random samples can be taken to make sure the tabulated votes agree with the physical votes.

Arizona Wins Trophy For Effed-Up Primaries, Has Plenty Of Competition

Congratulations to Arizona’s Maricopa County, which did the very best job so far in the 2016 election cycle of completely screwing up its primary election and screwing over urban voters. Thanks to the Supreme Court’s 2013 recognition that racism is over, the county didn’t have to get clearance from the Justice Department before making changes to its voting procedures. Following a big round of budget cuts, Maricopa County slashed primary voting sites by 70 percent, from 200 in the last presidential election, to 60 in 2016. You’ll never guess what happened! Actually, of course can guess: incredibly long lines, people giving up and going home, and some who stuck it out having to wait to vote for up to FIVE AND A HALF HOURS, ALAN. And while Maricopa County managed a truly colossal fuckup that led to plenty of people in the heavily Latino county being unable to vote, County Recorder Helen Purcell initially blamed voters for voting on election day instead of voting early:

Others in the competition were: Kansas, North Carolina, and of course Texas.

So good job, Maricopa County — your incompetence may have kept a lot of people from voting, but you’re going to have to work if you want to be as adept as other states at suppressing people from exercising their stupid voting rights. Thank god it’s so much easier to get a gun than to register to vote. That’s how Americans are supposed to have a say in government anyway.

The Left always supports anything that makes voter fraud easier...

Gotta get those inner city blacks and illegals to vote at as many polls as possible...

There is no way of knowing whether or not voter fraud has occurred. Legal authorities can tell whether or not anybody gets caught, but they don't know how many people get away with it.

I don't believe any gov. action will prevent any registered voters from voting. They may decide not to vote or they may have some personal problems, but that has nothing to do with the gov. This is especially so of college students, who usually vote by write-in ballot unless they are attending college in their home towns.

You just want to snatch back something that was never taken from you.

Be sure to apply for welfare while you're at it.

I have voted since I was 21 years old and have never been hassled by anybody. On those occasions when I was asked to show ID, I did so without protest.

I am collecting SS and a pension and have Medicare. Why would I apply for welfare?

Voter Fraud... accused? Convicted? When? Where?

Post some examples of voter fraud. Then and only then should we be trying to take voting away from people or make it harder for some to vote.

NO ONE should have to stand in line for hours! That is not the truly American way!

(Granted... one could go back to old New York.... as in "Gangs of New York" but those were those ugly hardly American aliens from Ireland........)

We HAVE had cases of voter caging and other illegal activities that were NOT prosecuted for some reason!

No, long queues are the traditional Soviet way. Which proves GOP obstructionists forcing these long lines are Stalinist communists at heart.

Nothing to do with the Government? Oh Lordy. Where do folks get their IDs from, their birth certificates?

What happens when the system crashes and lines are around the block all over the state?

Most people who show ID at the polling place use their drivers' licenses. These are not acquired for this purpose but they do double duty. Those who do not drive can get ID cards from their DMV offices. However, whether they vote or not is not controlled by the gov., unless they are felons or are otherwise not eligible to vote.

I read about the problems in AZ, but I was under the impression it was in Phoenix.
