This gated community deep in the heart of Texas has a strict dress code requirement for any and all women on the premises.

http://holyarchangels.com/#rules-of-the-monastery
Ladies are asked to modestly dress with loose fitting, non see-through clothing. The skirt or dress (no pants) should fall well below the knees. The shirt or blouse should be long sleeved and buttoned up (no v-necks), and a scarf is required as a head covering (no hats). Socks or hose and shoes must be worn at all times.
They also require women and girls to dine at separate tables from the men.

How can we allow such religious extremism on American soil?

If the women voluntarily agree, it is freedom of religion. As long as no coercion involved, I got no problem with it. Doesn't sound much different the Mennonite communities around the Kitchener-Waterloo region. Lots of buggies, head dresses and beards there.

Now being Christian extremism that's different than Mormon or Muslim extremism. Because... (insert Christiancentric reasoning here)

It is not a gated community. It is a fucking Greek Orthodox MONASTERY! When you enter somebody's religious site, you follow their rules. Take off your shoes in a mosque. Cover your head in synagogue. Don't wear a ballcap in a cathedral. Don't walk up the front steps of a Mayan temple. Don't photograph Zuni sacred dancers. Urinate before entering a Scientology office. Stuff like that.

We'd better keep an eye on them. They're obviously extremists, and that means terrorism.

Or not. Point is, let's be vigilant.

;)

Good Lord...

;)

Where I come from there are head-scarfed Mennonite women everywhere.

On the other hand, Mennonite enclaves are not infested with people who want to blow you to smithereens in the name of the Lord.

Why do you care? Isn't this exactly how your precious "Islam" treats their women?

So do many Christian sects. Not all Muslim women wear the hijab. You watch to much news which focuses on sensationalism. Go outside and look around. The world is far more moderate than TV portrays.

Here in Ontario we actually have to support religious schools that force dress codes on students and have mandatory classes in religion. Fucking Catholics!

If my taxes go to supporting what is called the Separate School Boards I see no reason we should not be supporting schools in mosques and synagogues myself.

But I disagree with publically funding religious schools due to historical ideals from our countries founding years.

If this is intended as a parody of some posters who criticize some of Islam's view of women - you got us wrong, phrodeau.

Firstly,
We're not as biased as you think we are. We're just chronically perplexed by some GB libs.' claim that misogyny does Not exist among some radical muslims. And by their tendency to take their whiteknighteing role to an extreme by trying to villify or "hunt" anyone who claims otherwise.

Secondly, from what I was told:
Orthodox jews take their religion to an extreme.
And they're not different from any "radicals or fundamentalists" (whatever one might call them) from any religion or movement: be it Islam, Christianity, atheism, feminism or the opposite, conservative or liberal stance.
(See the 'Horseshoe theory' - L.J. occ. talks about it).

I remember when the Catholics were kicked off the school bus even though they paid the same property taxes as everyone else, but, you know, strict separation of church and state...

;)

And we still said the Lord's Prayer every morning in the "state" school. *chuckle*

Oops - I had a closer look at the link and I see that I got it wrong - they're Christians, not orthodox Jews.
But that doesn't change the message of my post.

Jeese, I got duped by the OP, I guess.

Firstly, he phrased it in a confusing manner. "Gated community" means something entirely different from Church or monastery.

Nevertheless, I agree with parts of their stance - one shouldn't enter a Church wearing a mini-skirt just below the bottom or a very low-cut cleavage. Show some respect! And that goes for Any religious institution, be it Islamic, Jewish, Christian and so on.
The sitting at separate tables seems odd, tho.

EDIT.
I just read Hypoxia's post. - agree
