Very steamed about this. One of my co-workers has been stalked today and had to be escorted to her fucking car by fucking security. To put it mildly, I'm very upset to see and how of this, as it is quite clear that the poor woman is terrified and upset. She has every right and reason to be shaken up, which she clearly is.

Anyway, just felt like ranting about this somewhere, and while I haven't posted here in a good while, this seems as good a place as any to express my outrage. I hope that the authorities get this guy and good.

This is a GB post not an Author's Hangout. I can appreciate your disgust but please post where appropriate. Bad enough politics bleeds over to GB and other places. Now GB is bleeding over everywhere too. Else why bother with boards. Have just one big clusterfuck of a site.

That is truly ghastly and outrageous. My heart goes out to you and your wife, especially her, since she lived through it first hand. :rose:

Shame on the system for coddling the perp, too. I'm tired of these fucking stalkers, and yes, for the record, I instinctively believed the girl when she said that she was being stalked. So did the rest of us. This girl isn't saying things for attention. Why would she? She's really scared and shaken up. I know that I would be in her shoes.

Not sure if the motive is sexual or a hate crime. She's a Muslim from an Arab country, so it could easily be either.

My mother carried a pistol for male pests. She doesn't need a bazooka, a small caliber gun od 22 or 24 caliber is adequate, and you don't gotta kill the bastard, shoot his foot.

This happened about six years ago to a co-worker. My company is very good about these things and he was first warned, then suspended, then fired and we had the police show up and explain why and she was there to tell them how afraid she was and that led to her ultimately getting a restraining order.

he showed up in the parking lot a week later and someone spotted him and told me, then said they were going to call the cops.

I said don't bother and took care of it myself.

It's all those types understand, they're cowards and bullies, whack them around and they lose interest fast.

:rose: I hope she doesn't have to deal with it long. My one experience was rather mild and a visit by a couple cops my boss knew warned him off.

The folks who inhabit the AH may safely regard the problem as with a relative.
I doubt it would mean as much on the GB.

:rose: Sorry you had to go through that, but glad that it stopped. Yeah, I hope that it doesn't last, too.

Hope it doesn't come to that, but that's her call on how she wants to defend herself. I can respect her right to arm herself if she wishes, of course. It wouldn't be practical where we work, though, due to the store's "no firearms" policy.

I don't know which possibility scares me more.....the idea of him stalking her for sexual violence purposes or of this being a hate crime against Muslims.

Of course, James is just giving you his usual bunch of bull on that.

Sorry Severus, nobody should have to put up with that.

This is a GB post not an Author's Hangout.....
It's true this is not about writing, but sometimes real life intrudes in our writing so people come on here and blurt about it, especially if they are longstanding contributors to AH and wary of GB. It's not always easy to tell what is permissible blurting, what is practice-writing and what is just off-the-point blathering which blocks up the board.

Thanks, Naoko. Obviously, before anyone says something to this effect, no, this isn't about me, nor am I trying to make it about me. It's about a real person, who is really worried for her own safety, and rightfully so. I know fully well that I am not an injured party here, but I had to vent my outrage and anxiety at seeing this woman suffer like that.

I just hope that the crisis is over.....I can't help but be affected by her sadness and her fear. I've never seen someone so directly affected by this before, and the terror that she suffers is even worse than I imagined.

AH can be a place where you find a surprising level of support, and you know it's genuine here because it's easy for people to sneer and make cheap cracks at you. The cheap cracks are easy to dismiss (hopefully!), and hopefully the kindness stays with you.

I hope you feel better for being able to vent. This kind of thing is distressing for everyone: those who witness it as well as those who have to go through it. Your workplace may be offering some support to you and your other co-workers? That would be very normal, take it up if so.

It's good that we talk about these things on here too, because with the topics we write stories about, it's easy for people to assume sexual violence is A-OK on here. We should be able to write about sexual violence and non-con, and we should also be able to write about the damage it can actually do when vulnerable people are put in situations that nobody should have to go through for real.
