New York's rat problem

It's not new. In 1968 I inhabited various rattraps in the bowels of Manhattan. X-flats (condemned tenements) on the Lower East Side were fairly clean, compared to others. The old Broadway Central Hotel, once the world's grandest, collapsed a couple decades after I was there. In our tenancy we heard rats scurrying through the wals, nibbling at the pipes, chewing on the wires. Our room ceiling fell in because rats and water. It didn't help that neighbors included grave-robbers and nightmare-screaming holocaust survivors.

I don't much care for New York. It deserves the fucking rats.
