Earth Is Actually TWO Planets, Study Finds

"The giant impact hypothesis -- the popular belief that a "planetary embryo" called Theia collided with Earth some 4.5 billion years ago, leading to the formation of our planet's moon -- has been around for a while.

But a NASA-funded research team has added an amazing new twist to the idea; that Earth wasn't just sideswiped by Theia, as many have conjectured, but sustained a direct hit and actually absorbed a large portion of the rogue planet.

In other words, Earth is made up of two fused planets -- Earth and Theia -- the study suggests.

"Theia was thoroughly mixed into both the Earth and the moon, and evenly dispersed between them," lead author Edward Young, a professor at the University of California, Los Angeles, said in a statement."

Makes sense. Earth and the moon are pretty much identical twins born out of the impact, one being smaller than the other.

Dutch police train eagles to snatch enemy drones

The Dutch police have partnered with Guard From Above, a raptor training company based in Denmark, to determine whether eagles could be used as intelligent, adaptive anti-drone weapon systems.

The eagles are specially trained to identify and capture drones, although from the way most birds of prey react to drones, my guess is that not a lot of training was necessary.

After snatching the drone out of the sky, the eagles instinctively find a safe area away from people to land and try take a couple confused bites out of their mechanical prey before their handlers can reward them with something a little less plastic-y.

The advantage here is that with the eagles, you don’t have to worry about the drone taking off out of control or falling on people, since the birds are very good at mid-air intercepts as well as bringing the drone to the ground without endangering anyone.

Men face higher risk of cancers linked to oral sex

http://www.globalpost.com/article/6732733/2016/02/13/men-face-higher-risk-cancers-linked-oral-sex

"Men are twice as likely as women to get cancer of the mouth and throat linked to the human papillomavirus, or HPV, one of the most common sexually transmitted infections, researchers say.

For men, the risk of HPV-driven cancers of the head and neck rise along with the number of oral sex partners, researchers said Friday at the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) annual meeting in the US capital.

Nearly two out of three of these oral cancers in the United States and most western nations are caused by infection with the HPV 16 strain of the virus, and incidence of cancer is on the rise in recent years, said Gypsyamber D'Souza, who teaches epidemiology at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland.

Middle aged white men are at particularly high risk compared to other races.

She said her research shows that youths are engaging in oral sex at increasingly young ages, compared to past generations.

"Our research shows that for men, the number of oral sex partners -- as that number increases, the risk of an oral HPV infection increases," she told reporters.

But with women, the number of sexual partners does not appear to raise the risk.

"Comparing men and women with the same number of sexual partners, a man is much more likely to become infected with oral HPV than a woman."

Furthermore, women who have a greater number of vaginal sex partners appear to face a lower risk of oral HPV infection, she said.

The reason may be that when women are first exposed to HPV vaginally, they mount an immune response that prevents them from getting an oral HPV infection, she said.

But men do not seem to have equally robust immune responses.

"Men are not only more likely to be infected with oral HPV infection than women, but our research shows that once you become infected, men are less likely to clear this infection than women, further contributing for the cancer risk."

HPV infection is quite common, and most people clear the virus within a year or two, she said.

In some cases, however, HPV does not go away and can lead to cellular changes in the mouth and throat, which eventually become cancerous.

Oral sex may raise the risk of head and neck cancer by 22 percent, according to a study published January in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA).

This type of cancer has risen 225 percent in the last two decades."

Two thoughts:

I guess Michael Douglas knew what he was talking about.

Sometimes Mother Nature isn't fair.

Probably be adding HPV vaccines to the usual school vaccination routines for all sexes soon.

Never thought to hear eating pussy was cancer causing! :(

"There have been a lot of interesting mythological explanations for the circles by locals in Namibia," [Stephan] Getzin told ABC News today. "Some people thought fairies danced in a circle overnight, while others thought they could be the footsteps of God."

Local lore also explained the circular gaps as being created by a dragon whose fire burned holes into the land, Getzin said. And still others believed the circles were created by UFOs, he added.

But these three main scientific theories emerged after researchers started looking into circles in the remote Namib Desert in the 1970s, Getzin explained:

• Toxic carbon monoxide gas was rising up from the Earth under the circles, killing the vegetation

• Insects, mainly ants and termites, nibble away at the roots of the grasses

• The grasses self-organize themselves in this pattern as a response to scarce water

After doing more investigation on the circles in Australia for these past two years, Getzin's team was able to find significant evidence and support for the third theory, he said.

He added that other similar patterns exist in remote, dry areas of Earth, including trees that form "stripes" on mountain slopes and "labyrinths of tiger bush" found in the arid and semi-arid regions of Australia, West Africa and North America.

Scans of King Tut's Tomb Reveal Hidden Rooms

"Scans of King Tut's Tomb Reveal Hidden Rooms, Egypt's Antiquities Ministry Says"

"CAIRO — Radar scans of King Tut's tomb have revealed two spaces on the north and east chambers of the pharaonic mausoleum that could contain the "discovery of the century," Egypt's antiquities ministry said Thursday.

"Antiquities Minister Mamdouh al-Damaty told a press conference that metal and organic masses were revealed by the scans, signaling that the rooms could possibly contain funerary objects.

"It could be the discovery of the century. It's very important for Egyptian history and the history of the world," he said, adding that the chambers may well have belonged to a king or queen. Further tests will be done on March 31 to discover more about the newly-discovered spaces, he added.

The 1922 discovery of King Tut's tomb by a team of British archaeologists became a sensation that sparked a worldwide interest in ancient Egypt. Thursday's revelations raise the tantalizing possibility that the more than 4,500 artifacts uncovered nearly 100 years ago were only part of a larger royal funerary treasure.

King Tutankhamun, often dubbed the boy king, was an Egyptian pharaoh who rose to power in 1,333 B.C. at the tender age of 10. His mother was Queen Nefertiti and his father was Akhenaten."
