Yes it is. I worked in a closed environment for years so I too have a background in things not getting out.
I'm sure the book's author had to fight "national security" myth for a long time but obviously won. I was in the Pentagon when "Hunt for Red October" was published. That created a fire storm because of its accuracy.
Of course every Navy guy I knew was reading the book.
Um...are you sure we never met. I was working at FGGM when all of us gov't guys put Tom Clancy on the map. I used to read his books until I saw him speak. He lit up a cig...and someone said, "Um. Mr. Clancy, this is a federal building. No smoking." That arrogant fuck said "you want me to talk? then I smoke. If I can't smoke, then I'll leave."
I liked it too. On Friday I just heard the Indigo Girls' cover. I dig that one too.
I'll have to check that one out.
