From the likes of Donald Trump (no surprise) and even from Trump's polar opposite in the Republican Party, John McCain:

For the record, Cruz was born in Alberta, to a mother who was an American citizen. Cruz didn't get around to renouncing his Canadian citizenship till fairly recently, but I don't dispute that he was an American citizen at birth and thus is eligible to run for President.
Of course, I haven't also spent the last eight years making the exact opposite argument about the current President. So why do so few on the conservative side seem to disagree with me?
Trump and McCain have their reasons to be pulling this stunt (one is running against Cruz right now, and the other one can't stand him), but why isn't Cruz's birthplace a bigger deal among Republican voters, the majority of whom still falsely believe Obama was born outside the United States? Why has Steve King, probably the most prominent Obama birther in the House, endorsed someone who everyone admits was born in another country?
If I were a more cynical man, I'd almost wonder if the birther charges against Obama were a proxy for something else, something that can't be admitted openly for whatever reason. Can it possibly be true?
