I let some bad energy in and need it cleared. Anyone ever tried smudging successfully?

Yes. Usually done with white sage, you can use the smoke from any clean herbs(meaning, those not toxic to inhale). Common ones are lavender, mugwort, and juniper.

If you're cleansing an item such as gemstones, you just light a fire on your sage stick or get your incense burning and pass the object through the smoke so that it curls over and under it. If you're cleansing your space, a bundle of whatever herb you're using helps; just light it up so that it smolders and walk widdershins around your space, passing the smoke over everything top to bottom. You can direct the smoke with your hand or a feather. Doesn't matter.

The point of it is that negative energies and thought forms cling to the smoke as it drifts over the objects and it makes it float away as the smoke dissipates. I routinely engage in a whole house cleansing on Saturdays for its correspondences with cleaning and purifying. Not just smudging but everything that needs cleaning, like any laundry or dishes that have piled up, vacuuming, dusting, decluttering.

Instead of smudging, you can cleanse your home by burning lavender or sandalwood scented candles in each room. Or if those scents bother you, white candles will also work.

What do you do to cleanse your home from the smoke?!??

You must lead a very sheltered life if you think it isn't scary.

Be a pretty interesting poll to compare and contrast the various things that people choose to believe in. I know people that believe in aliens but not angels and vice versa.

Two totally different things. One is scientific, one is not. Aliens almost certainly exist. Angels depend on faith.

I don't buy into it but my wife does. She claims it's more about feeling it yourself than actually cleansing anything supernatural but I think she just says that so I won't argue with her.

Make sure you are careful with smoke and candles - and have a working fire extinguisher!

Yeah - it is my girlfriends thing and her suggestion. But in her version the ritual will make you feel better even if you don't "believe".

It is not about chasing away a ghost.
