I didn't notice an introduce yourself section on this forum so please forgive me if I am posting this in the wrong place, but authors' hangout sounded like the best option. I have just submitted my first story, correction I have submitted two stories but my first one has officially been posted and I am very excited about it. I have read countless stories on Literotica throughout the years and have been writing stories for nearly two years now, but for some reason I am just now submitting them here. I started by posting them on my tumblr blog but one of my followers suggested I start posting them here (I don't know why I didn't think about that). Anyways I look forward to reading fellow authors' and readers' comments and feedback on my stories and also reading some of the amazing stories featured on this site.

Also I have a quick question is there a way to respond to people's feedback through literotica or the only way to do so is by sending them an email to the address that is featured on the feedback email?

Cheers,
Charlotte Peach

LIT reminds me of this event: Youre standing on the corner, waiting for the bus, and a jerk drives by splashing water all over you. Maybe theyre not truly a jerk but youre not likely to see them again unless theyre trolls.

Hi welcome to the AH.

The only way to respond to feedback is replying to something sent to you that has a return e-mail address.

You can respond to readers comments on your stories with one fo your own in that section, but no guarantee they come back and read it.

Welcome, Charlotte, to the Authors' Hangout (AH)!

Congratulations on getting your first story published here. You can link to your story so it's easier for us to find. You can create a forum signature from the user control panel to say 'here's my story'.

It's nice to respond to constructive feedback (or just empty praise!). Some comments are anonymous without any email with which to respond. You can leave a comment on your own story (as I see you've done) if all else fails and you feel the need to say something. If you do reply by email, it's probably best to have a dedicated 'smut' email.

Lemme say that some of the comments are bull shit flattery meant to hurt when the flatterer tires of the game.

Hi Charlotte, welcome to the Authors' Hangout. This is a good place to ask questions about writing and about technical issues with stories you upload, etc.
:)

Lemme just say that there are one or two people in here who are not always sure how to tell a hawk from a handsaw when the wind is southerly ;) If anyone says anything weird in your thread, you should just politely ignore them. There are also many people who will be willing to advise you about your writing. Proceed with caution til you are sure who is really supportive, take the good and leave the bullshit to those who like poking it, is my advice.

GoldenMaia recently asked how to increase readership and I think there was some discussion in that thread about how to respond to people who had left comments on your stories.

If you would like some extra feedback on your stories, you can go into the Story Feedback forum too. You can post your own thread with links to your stories asking for feedback generally, or go into Sammael_Bard's thread or Lien_Geller's to get feedback from them.

Have fun!

This is important. Most readers on Lit are fine. A few, inevitably, are unhinged. Make sure your real name or location doesn't appear in an email address (or anything else) you give to Literotica. Be careful with gmail in particular; it has a habit of adding information to your address.

I'm hoping Charlotte isn't the town you hail from, for example. That would be giving away a little too much information, in my personal opinion.

I also make it a habit to remind anyone contacting me in email not to give me their last name or town, and I ask them not to write back if they are under 18.

I've had no actual problems; these are just good, basic rules that make sense in a lot of internet interactions and make especial sense here.

Enjoy your stay!

You, dear, are the least informed human I know of.

Welcome to the madhouse. If you aren't crazy when you get here, you will be when you leave. ;)

By the way, noirtrash is one of our pet trolls. He sometimes has interesting things to say but mostly he's talking out his ass. He's old and cranky, especially when he's off his meds.

Some guy splashes water on me I have to figure he knows the street, drives there often and so I'll visit that bus stop half an hour before for a few days in a row, wondering if it's how this guy gets to work. When I see his car again and where he turns, I move down to that corner and see where he turns again and follow till I know where he parks his car.

Then again, maybe it was a one time thing and I just wasted a few weeks waiting for this car that never comes.

I'm so fuggin tired tired of my meds.

Quack quack. Welcome to the funny farm. Watch where you step; trolls and tramps leave nasty droppings.

Here's an issue that's sure to arise: Why are you here? What are your LIT goals? Are you after brownie points: views, votes, faves? Do you want to express yourself, no matter what? Or hone your writing skills? Or provoke readers to respond, by pandering to or challenging them? Or recruit possible sexual partners? Or just pass the time?

My goals evolved. First, I wanted a mass of Red-H's, high vote scores. Now I go for provocation and pandering. Both are fun -- more fun than tracking numbers. Enjoy!

Welcome to the padded room.

If you want to contact someone that left a comment for you on a story, simply click on their name which will take you to their Lit profile. Then click on the "Contact" tab which will give you box to fill in a private message to them. If you are open and comfortable with getting a direct reply from them, be sure to check the box underneath the message area and provide yours.

That original message goes through the private Lit system. The system sends your message to their registered email address. If you have provided your email, then you may or may not continue with further contact and/or discussion with each other using your own email addresses.

Thank you everyone for the responses. No I am not from Charlotte, it's just a name I like for some reason and I have no personal ties to it nor does it reveal anything about me except I'm female. Ah looks like I'm ahead of the game because I already have an email account for my "secret" life which consists of this site and my tumblr blog. Thank you to the person for explaining that odd reply I got. In terms of what my goals are: I want to reach a wider audience and see if my erotica actually is any good like I've been told. I have some very dedicated readers on my blog who are always asking me when I will be posting the next chapter. The other goal is to see if maybe I can break into the erotic novel market, and make some extra cash off of something I enjoy doing. I'm sure countless erotica authors have the same hope, but hey I'd rather try and fail then not try at all.

Darn that's a shame that the only way to respond to feedback is via your own email address. Even though I do have my smut email I don't really feel comfortable giving it out but I do want those who give me feedback to know I appreciate it.

Two ways of letting your readers know when you have material coming out are having a twitter feed, and using About Me. About Me will automatically update from your blogposts for you, so if you put up a post there whenever you upload a new story, your readers can see this on the blog or on the About Me site.

Yes, LOL, lots of authors hope to be the next 50 Shades of Off-white ;) Some do make a little money with our writing. This is more about being good at publicising yourself than about being good at writing, but there is no reason you can't do both.

Be mindful of the rules about promoting your stories on the site. There is a thread at the top of the Forum where you can list your story offsite when it's published - as long as you are also publishing stories on Literotica. Some writers will also put a list or a link to author profile elsewhere in their signature. You can link to your blog in your signature, for example.

Good luck!

Nice tumblr! For wider readership, consider entering the competitions. Valentine's Day is the next one. Asking someone to write reviews of your stories can also help. Bard, Lien and Naoko write regular reviews of stories. Just send them a PM.

Sometimes a bit of discretion is needed dealing with feedback. If feedback is constructive and seems to require conversation, the person is likely better behaved via email. You can always spam-filter someone if necessary.

I now have a Twitter account: @ElGorza. It's been quite fun so far.

Literotica authors regularly contact us asking how they can reply to reader feedback without sharing their email address. The old way is to simply create a dedicated Gmail account for interacting with readers. That protects your privacy and separates your "real" email address from your Lit work.

The new way - which is not yet released - will be the Literotica site-wide private messaging system. We are in the process of testing a Lit messaging system that will allow any registered Literotica member to contact any other registered member directly. Like Twitter/FB/Instagram/etc, you will be able to easily chat/message with anyone else who has a Literotica account.

The new messaging system is part of the Literotica upgrade which will start rolling out in the first quarter of 2016. The first thing to see public testing will be the author Control Panel, but messaging shouldn't be too far behind (as long as we don't run into any major problems along the way).

This still doesn't solve the issue of easily contacting unregistered/anonymous readers, so we are open to suggestions on how to improve that type of communication. Most sites don't allow unregistered users to make private contact with registered users because it opens the system up to abuse, but we don't want to exclude feedback from readers who prefer not to register.

I know this doesn't help right now, but I wanted to let you know that big changes are on the way!

Thanks for this, Manu. Does this mean that writer and forum accounts will be unified?

Maybe not right away. :D

The new messaging system is not related to the forum software at all. The forum uses pretty old software and the stuff we are working on for the main Lit site is all new technology. It made sense for us to create a totally new messaging system for the site, rather than using the one here in the forum.

Eventually, the forum may be more integrated into the site, but it wasn't a priority in the first set of major updates that we're working on. Our priority has been on improving the overall experience for both authors and readers on the main site.

Maybe someday! :D
